Re: New Member and Owner. Questions?

Waaayyyy well done mate. Welcome to the AT family.
    Enjoy your AT.

    1) Does the bike have a petrol gauge? Its just I cant seem to find one? Is it something to do with the trip computer?
Nope sorry there isn't one. Set one of the trips each time you fill up. You should get around 190 - 200 miles before you go on to reserve unless you have a heavy right hand.

    2) The brakes in general don't seem too great? Is this a know trait of the model? Or are there any modifications I can do to improve this? Braided Hoses, better pads for example?
Personally I've found the brakes fine and I moved from a YZF600 which had stunning brakes.

    3) I am also looking to fit an after-market exhaust. Can someone point me in the right direction. I don't want anything loud just noticeable as I find at high speeds I cant hear the engine.
I'd recommend that Remus that I have. Quiet on tick over and low revs but has one hell of a bark when you let rip. Awesome. No rejetting required as well.

    4) There seems to be very bad correding on the wheels and spokes especially. For a bike 1year old, bought from a honda approved dealership is this expected?
I've been dissappointed with the finish but I haven't had any problems with corroding spokes. You should be able to get them changed under warranty I would have hoped!?

    5) I am looking into buying some sort of panniers for the bike as this is going to be my main sort of transport all year round. They don't need to be huge, just storage for a few items.
Can't help there but I have the Honda topbox which has good capacity and I can recommend.
    Forum help and advice needed?

Re: New Member and Owner. Questions?

Well Done. I have a late model AT too .. bought earlier this year.

Yes, no Fuel Gauge ... I am very heavy with the Throttle, and get about 150 - 160 miles from Full to Reserve. I can get 200 if I take it easy. .. Learn to feel for the Fuel Tap, and get used to selecting reserve on the move!

I found the brakes are a little crap ... I use the front quite heavily, and rarely touch the rear.. I just lean to live with them

Exhaust... Me too ..... If you find a cheap one, let me know.

No corrosion on my wheels, but it should be under warrenty

I have Givi Monokey sides and topbox (The really big ones). I can get 2x helmets in each box with room to spare.

I have also changed the screen as I found the origional one lacking a little at high speeds in bad weather. The new screen gives a lot more protection

    brakes and pads

I was told by the local honda dealer that the o/e pads made by nissen last longer than spurious ones, as regards the brakes i find them alright as long as you d'ont drive like a madman.

The build quality of the XRV is poor. The wheels corrode at a alarming rate. Externally my rear wheel looks good, when I removed the tape at my last tyre change [25000 miles] the corrosion around the spokes was very bad, I had to take my rim to work so the corrosion could be removed and treated, before fitting my new tyre. Over 30% of the spokes were loose. I never use a power wash on my bike, also during the winter it is sprayed with dewatering fluid,
