    Oil drain bolt stripped

was out today giving the @ a service, dropped oil, cleaned bike up a bit, great, put new filter on and wiped down old oil.

hand threaded the sump plug in, check manual, 35n/m??? seems tight so set torque wrench at 30NM and away i go, half a turn and bang, treads stripped.

So anyone know a solution to repair the threads without having drop engine out?

it was awful tight when took it off so think someone might have cross threaded it hen last put it in as i had baerly startd tighten it up when went

I'd look to see how much meat there is and see if I could helicoil it. Dead easy to do and helicoil kits are pretty cheap these days form the likes of Machine Mart. They do an own brand kit that is identical to the helicoil kit bar the colour of the tools

I use these. Recently repaired a botched Honda C90 drain plug thead using this system. The finished product is more permanent than Helicoil.

++ TIME-SERT Threaded inserts for stripped threads, threaded inserts, thread repair stripped sparkplug's, Ford sparkplug blowouts, threaded inserts threaded, repair stripped threads, stripped threads, inserts threaded inserts, Ford spark plug repair,

Try your local car garage, they probably have the kit and as a one off its probably cheaper than buying the kit.
You do need direct access for the drill and fitting method. Not sure about access to the AT sump.

If you decide use a Stahlbus drain plug, youŽll only have to use the thread one more time: Change oil - clean and simple

I got those both on the XL700 and the XRV750 and love the simplicity of an oil change.

how does it work, just threads into oil plug and a valve at other end is it?

Good idea but thats very expensive, any hydraulics shop will make you oe of those hoses for less than a tenner and will more than likely be twice the quality

    Re: Oil drain bolt stripped

had a look today at sump.

looks like plug thats in the bike was wrong thread type and also very short.

so i think the threads damaged were the 1st 6mm, there is still another 6-7mm f thread further in so a longer bolt will sort me out.

so might look at trying another method, i will fit longer bolt but might try make up a drain pipe on the end to aid oil draining so dont have take the bolt out again

so lastly how important is a magnetic plug, would it be major down side if left it out and fitted a drain bolt that did not have one fitted as think i have a sump bolt without a magnet

Magnetic bolt isn't major (no one fits them as standard). It's just nice to have, extra protection.
Like crash bars, no need for them but if the worst does happen they may help. But chances are damage will occur anyway
