    headlights sandblasted! replace?

just sorting some bits before the next journey and realized my headlights are so sandblasted that it looks like i'm driving by candlelight! been trying to get them out the housings, but no luck so far? can one actually get them out? if so, how? or do you just replace the whole unit with the housing? did not see the part on the usual sites? otherwise i suppose one can try and buff them up? anyone tried this before?
promise i searched the forum but found zip! so please boys and gals if anyone has a clue

im sure there has to be a few knocking around this site , put up a thread in the wanted section and see what comes up , i pretty sure you cant split the units , so your looking at replacements

    Re: headlights sandblasted! replace?

sitting out here in the sticks of namibia does not give me ready acess to stuff advertised in the UK, so i have to rather fix things and use whats available. now i can get the glas lens conical bits as they do come like that in some older cars and is available in the spares shop. the problem is getting them out of the casings they are sitting in. i see the lenses and frame has STANLEY written on them. so has anyone actually managed to split the lens out of the surounding casing, or do they actually just come like that as a complete unit? if one lens on an AT breaks, how is it normally replaced? fanks boys and gals!

Clean them thoroughly, de-grease them and then lacquer them. It should get rid of the frosted finish. Fit some perspex discs as covers when you're done (get a few made up while you're at it).

May be worth trying to polish the glass with 400 grade wet or dry, then finish with some form of polishing compound. I use a product called Farecla.
