    Return to idle

    Hi,
Just another little thing with my RD04. It takes a while for the engine to return to idle RPM when I release the throttle. Also idle speed is a bit of a mess... changes continously between 1000 and 1700 rpm.

Read somewhere about false air between carbs and engine? How can I check that? And can this be related to the vibes I'm experiencing?

Sometimes think my beloved one is slowly starting to die below me... Can someone put my mind at ease?

    Cheers,
    Tijn

Check if there is a sticky choke-cable syndrome. Debated on this subject elsewhere in the forum.

    Good luck

that will be (amongst others?) the strange cold tickover problem thread

When I had a blocked pilot jet and seized choke cable on the front cylinder, tickover was unreliable when cold; to get it to tick over the idle speed had to be wound up, but that would give an erratic tickover that was often too fast, which sounds exactly like your problem.

The choke cable problem is on the front cylinder where the cable goes through an elbow piece, which collects water and corrodes. On mine the carb choke plunger has also seized. Be warned the spares -even just the choke cable - are really expensive.
flat out on utterly inappropriate tackle

Just had to reclean my rear cylinder choke, so both can get gummed up. I always check a front and a back sparkplug to see which needs doing. The sooty one will be the culprit. Pull the choke lever on when refitting, as this takes the spring pressure off that makes it difficult to refit the little blighters. (I checked the chokes because I had a bit of a low idle for a few days before.)

    Hi!

Think/Hope I found the prob. After spending the sunny sunday up, over, under and besides the bike... Choke plungers look allright, cleaned them anyway. But, when I decided to completely remove the carbs, I saw that one of the inlet rubbers, between carb and cylinder was torn.

Hope this explains the slow return to idle, and hopefully the lack of power... (see the Vibes!! topic).

Will let you know after I replace the inletrubbers. Do you think (I do) it is necessary to do a carb synch as well?

    Cheers,
    Tijn

And then, while letting the engine run for a little while, I saw this (on my brother's car... )

Any ideas what that might have been?

    Cheers,

Yes, a Honda Prelude unless I'm sorely stupid. And I've been known to be.
