    Reg/rec?

Last summer when I was riding my @ I kept getting a dead battery when riding with lights on. I changed the battery, but the problem persisted.

I dragged her out today and went for my first spin of the year, on my return I got the voltmeter out and got the following readings:

    Idle- lights off 14.6
    Idle lights on 12.7

    Lights off

    3000 rpm 14.5
    4000 14.6
    5000 14.6

    Lights on

    3000 12.9
    4000 13
    5000 13

Does this look about right or do I need to look at a new reg/rec.

    Thanks in advance!

Got to say that the figures you've given look OK to me, in that your not getting anything over high 14v at most revs. If the reg/rec is fubared you commonly see 15+v at anything past 2k revs.

Someone with an in-depth knowledge of electrics will be along soon to give a definative answer to your question

Quick edit as I've just found the outputs from my @ with the original reg/rec fitted:-

The battery was showing 13.18v with the engine off

    Idle = 12.81v

    2k revs lights on = 14.11v

    2k revs Lights off = 14.35v

I've now fitted a Mosfett reg/rec cos there was one for sale on here & I fancied a fully digital @

Looks good to me. To get best charging, check your negative/earth/ground whatever you call it in English connection between battery and frame; check the three yellow cables between regulator and alternator (those which should get rid of the in-between plug anyways). Other than that be reminded that e.g. heated grips & foglamps at the same time will use more amps than the battery receives, south of Vmax.
    Cheers
