    Fuel from overflow question?

    Hi

Perhaps some of you erudite chaps can enlighten me.....

Got my bike stuck in a sand dune the other day in Tunisia. I lay the bike on her side, backfilled the hole then put her upright again. As you know they are quite heavy beasts and getting her upright is quite a task on your own and can take several attempts.

When I lay her on her side, petrol started to come out of the overflow (as expected)...... however the question is....... if you just leave her down does she (a) continue to drain until the tank is empty, (b) reach an equilibrium point with x litres left, or (c) just dribble a few hundred mls then stop? Obviously being in the desert one does not want to lose the contents of the tank......

Any thoughts appreciated (for next time!)

    Cheers

    Gary

Its a fair question but I wonder if its just a subtle way of skiting about a trip to Tunisia while the rest of us have been slaving away at work

Are we talking about the carb overflow or the tank overflow? Turning the fuel tap to OFF will limit the spilage from the carb overflow. As for the fuel tank overflow....

    Thanks Chaps

I thought it was coming from the tank overflow, hence my concern and didn't want to leave it too long and see if it stopped itself......Perhaps a controlled experiment in the back yard is required.

And to make you more jealous Gibbo I got to spend a month in Morocco as well! As an ex-sportsbike rider I was dead impressed with the AT as an all-rounder. She was great fun on the twisty mountain roads, despite the baggage, and coped well with the pistes, rocky tracks and sand, although the loss of a few lbs wouldn't go amiss. I thought the Metzeler Tourances worked well under all conditions and got 11,000 miles out of them. Time to start planning the next trip.....

    Cheers

It's not the age, it's the mileage...
