    Wheel alternatives?

I have a couple of worrying "vulcano-like" patches on both of my rims. Since all of them are perfectly retangular I think it is where once balance-weights were fitted. Maybe some freaky metalurgic reaction between lead and magnesium (or whatever metals are involved) or "just" general wheel-rotting? It does not seem to get worse but as soon as I am financially recovered from a whole series of repairs on my bike, I may want to replace both wheels.

Questions: Has Honda improved on the rims since, well, since mine was built (1994 model, "golden" wheels)? Are there better / cheaper alternatives (I know there is a British brand that makes them, just can't remember the name ).

    Thanks (again),
    Robert

Check out the links section, there is list of wheel builders there. I have had a quote from Hagon for replacing wheels & spokes, about £150 - £170 (ish) from memory. They have prices on their website.

    Hagon: That is the one!
    Found the site: http://www.hagon-shocks.co.uk/HagWheel.htm

Akront (Spanish?) is an idea too, had them on BMW GS once.
    Thanks!
