New AT owner with a few quick questions.

    Hi y'all!

New AT owner here. Bought a Y2K RD07A today. Pretty impressed with the bike (only driven it a few hundred km's so far). Have a few quick questions.

    1. Can you guys post a picture of a RD07A fuel tap? Mine doesn't look standard, I think it's been replaced. I guess it should be sitting flush on the outside
but mine is right under the outlet in the tank. I have to reach inside the frame to use the tap. The reason I ask is because I can smell petrol when stopping
at a traffic light or when I've driven it a while. An un-original looking fuel tap raised my suspicion.

    2. Coolant temperature needle. Where is it supposed to sit? I rode for good few hours today but the needle never rose more than a few millimetres above
C(old). Granted, today was a pretty cold day (temperatures around 0 to 5 degrees celsius). Still, you'd think it'd rise further. Maybe faulty sensor? Wrong thermostat?

    3. Any ideas where to source a rear right footpeg with holder and all? There were tons of them for the left side on eBay, but none for the right.

    4. Know of any stores with a good price on a Leo Vince One slip-on?

    That's about it I think. Thanks! Here's a few pics of said bike: XRV 750 - pihled.kuvat.fi

Re: New AT owner with a few quick questions.

    Hi & welcome.

Pauls answered No 2, so I'll take a stab at No 1, but without the picture.
Yes, the original tap does come out to just about flush with the frame at that point. It is very easy to break the tap if the tank is removed without removing the tap, so it' is liekly that has happened to your machine at an earlier date. If you are smelling fuel, the fuel pet-cock (the bit attached to the tank) may have a leak due to perished / misaligned seal, possibly caused when the tap was broken. You'll need to empty and removed the tank to check this out, and your as well to have new seals at hand when you do, cos the old ones will probably not go back on (if they're not already broken ).

Hope it's a simple tighten up job, which would be my first try at a fix, but you only know if it's worked once you've re-fitted and filled the tank

Re: New AT owner with a few quick questions.

    Thanks guys!

I'll look into the tap gaskets. I'm tempted to replace the entire tap with an original one if it isn't too expensive. That way I could turn the tap to RES while riding if the bike starts sputtering. Now I'd have to pull over to do that.
Good to know that the coolant gauge is normal.

Oh, just thought of another question:

    5. Is the choke lever supposed to be really stiff? It's very hard to operate while driving (with thick gloves) as the lever is so short and stiff. Maybe the choke cable could use some greasing?

1 - Fuel Tap is under the tank on the right side, and has a long plastic switch (#11 in the image below) over to the left side to switch between reserve, off and on. BE CAREFUL when removing tank as you'll need to remove this plastic handle BEFORE you remove the tank otherwise YOU WILL break it.

    2 - Already answered above
3 - Rear Hangar and footrest - HAMART have secondhand ones in stock
4 - Rugged Roads sell the Leo Vince LV One EvoII Exhaust for the Africa Twin in both Stainless and Carbon

5 - Choke shouldn't be overly stiff - probably needs a clean - just be careful when removing the cable plungers from the carbs - the plastic body will probably disintegrate when you look at it - if it does, we have a solution

Yeah, mine doesn't look like that anymore, which means somebody probably broke it and replaced it with a universal tap.

Wow, thanks! I checked them on eBay before, but they didn't list that one on eBay. I quickly ordered it just now. Thanks again!

Thanks, might order it from you guys, but not immediately since delivery can take 3 weeks and I'll be out of the country by that time.

Thanks yet again. That looks really useful. Will probably order those just in case.

If you want to replace your fuel tap with an original one.

Hamart have a secondhand plastic handle - and there is an RD07A fuel tap on Ebay Germany.

I have an aluminum version of the LeoVince (version no. 7255) sitting on my shelf about to be put on ebay. One year old, about 2.000km driven, comes with an additional aftermarket heat shield (which is necessary to protec the boots). Actually its great but too loud for me (no kidding, travelling with my son as pillion I donŽt need additional growl to disturb communications).

Send me a mail to detroitinfo at gmx.de and IŽll send you pics. 200 Euros excluding shipping; I can ship any day this week. Private sale.

    Cheers
    Chris

    Hey Chris,

Darn, read this too late. I already ordered the LeoVince pictured above since I found it at a good price and with fast delivery. Thanks anyway! I'm sure you'll get rid of it fast on eBay.
