    Regulator/rectifier help ASAP

    Hi guys,
The regulator of my Africa Twin 2003 broke. I read that RR from CBR 600/900 would work.... well, I got an RR from a CBR 954RR, I assumed it was the same, and the item description stated that this RR was really tough and you would never have regulator issues. This regulator has an extra black wire. If I can use this RR, where do I plug the black wire? Do I need to purchase another RR?? I really appreciate your help!!!

Not sure which regulator/rectifier you have but it's not the recommended MOSFET based one. These have FH012 or FH008 printed on them. I expect you could fit the one you have bought by wiring it in as per the original bike's wiring (probably... red battery 12v, green battery 0v, 3x yellow alternator input, black - connected to a 12v supply switched with the ignition) but your best bet is to locate the MOSFET unit. Search for MOSFET on the forum and you'll find some threads about the upgrade.

Not the same guy - but that's the sort of thing Angel could do with.

I need this to work for a month in order to wait for the MOSFET kit to arrive.
    Great help… really appreciate this!

I think that is probably correct. Best to check the CBR wiring diagram if you can find one. Generally Honda use black as a switched 12v so that is my educated guess - but it is still a guess.

I'm not sure about that particular bike, but I think on some of the regulators with the extra wire, it can be an output wire (something to do with the always on lights on some later bikes I think), while on others like the Africa Twin, the extra wire serves as an input to the regulator (connected to the 12v switched).

As you say it's probably worth checking the wiring diagram for that particular model/year to be sure, or check it with a multimeter so you know whether it's an input or output wire.

If it's an output wire, then I'm guessing you can leave it disconnected, but if it's an input wire this may be important for the regulator to monitor the voltage and function correctly (that's what I read anyway). There's an extra wire for that on the RD04 original regulator connector in the loom (not sure about the later models).

The mosfet regulators are definitely worth it imho. If the regulator you have has a code starting with 'FH' on it likely is a mosfet unit (there's one other one I'm aware of apart from the FH08 and FH012 - there might be others). If the code starts with SH then it'll be the old silicone (non-mosfet) type.

I ordered from this guy just over a week ago and it arrived in less than a week, you get all the kit you need
So, is there any tread left on the tires? Or at this point would it be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway?

Thanks guys. I did check the wiring diagram ot the CBR and the wire connects to the 12V swich. I installed the regulator -also had to get a new battery- and now the bike is up and runnning. I followed a flow chart that I found her in one of these forums and everything seems to be Ok. The only downside was that my weekend trip was posponed for a week.... I guess that will give me some time to run the bike before I take her to the road.
    REALLY THANKS!
BTW, I already ordered the Mosfet kit but I'm in South America... it will take more than week to arrive for sure! I will bug you about that installation later!
