    rattler

    Hmmm,
My 01 Tranny rattles a bit after I first knock the choke off, then again when I FIRST pull the clutch lever in.
It's a baby at 14k and I've re-checked the valve clearances since which are OK. I replaced the sparking (olde English) plugs at 12k so will check them after the above.

You buggers are worrying me now - I was content with buying a louder can.

    Recycler,
Don't worry, clutch rattle is normal with the AT. Mine has it too, in neutral and with clutch engaged, rattle rattle. Gone when I hit first gear.

There is a topic around here which is about the clutch rattle.

    Mick,
One thing I can think of, is to remove the sparkplugs, and then rotate the engine, with either the wheel, or via the crankshaft (via the bolt in the crankcasecover).
Maybe that will clear things a bit. If the sound is as loud as you describe it... don't think it too wise to run the engine.

Anyway, of course you have to let us know how and what Sorry for your friend, but it is an interesting prob.

    Cheers,
    Tijn

I never got over to my friends house last night. I rang him to tell him to check what I heard from here. But he said he found a bearing that was bad on the clutch side of the engine. Don't know which bearing.

I think the bearing cage broke. That would explain a loud noise. I'll get over to him and take a took at it tonight or tomorrow if the bloody rain stops (am in Ireland).

 I'll nick another mate's camera and try get a few pics to post here. That is if there's even anything to see

My AT made a Noise when it was running, turned out to be worn gears. [poor honda build quality] If your problem is a bearing, and it breaks up untold damaged can be done. One way to check for damage is to drain the oil then trawl through it with a magnet.

    ps

The company I work for has a Bearing Analyser that is not bean used, your for £30,000, only problem it is US spec
