For anyone interested, the Pentecoste is at the nw corner of Australia. How is the Pentecoste relevant to this thread? Its 700kms long and opening hours of the 2 fuel stops can be, errr, erratic anytime outside of the 2 month tourist season. Hence the preference for a 43ltr tank.

My personal favourite are the King Leopold Ranges some k's further down the road (riding direction Broome).
