    Broke down

Can you believe it, tonight on the way home it stopped.
    200 miles and no more.

I was trotting along when it went on reserve, being new to the AT I fumbled for the fuel tap so pulled over. Switched to reserve but it would not start, battery nearly flattened getting it to go before I gave up. I looked and suspected fuel pump and sure enough nothing was coming out as it was turning over. So I pronounced it dead.

While waiting for the AA I had brainwave and disassembled the tank and fuel lines and rigged it for a gravity feed and sure enough it started first time. Then with the carbs full I put it back together and started it up. It was fine and drove home as normal.

Does this signify a dodgy pump, or is the normal behaviour?

Do you leave the bike on res all the time or what.

Dodgy fuel pump. It will be the contacts in the fuel pump that have given up. They can be replaced, with spares from David Silver Spares - search for part number 16710SWITCHP. Either that or replace the pump with a solid state job - Facets seem to be the pump of choice - from Rugged Roads, maybe.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Sounds like the pump assuming it's OEM. Remove the screw from the pump and pry the cover off to inspect the contacts.
No logic driving around on reserve...unless you like walking after running out of fuel.

I would fix it and buy a facet to have as a backup. The fuel pump is a known-weakness of these bikes. Most of us carry a backup on long trips.
42k on the original pump is pretty impressive btw!

Rebuilding you old pump with new contacts will only burn out again unless you do the mod. Facet time.
They are solid state and used on aircraft. Very reliable. Rugged Roads carry them including fittings I believe.
    Facet fuel pump installation...long

Yeah the pump looks duff, typically the previous owner said he'd never had any issues with it
One tank of gas and I'm stopped dead, that's the way my luck is going at the mo.

There is a post on the Irish xrv site that says he used the posi 60104 facet. It's cheaper but I'm guessing not as good?

Installing a solid state facet the first time means you only have to do the job once. IMO. What pump are you running ujeni?

I am running a refurbished OEM pump and I carry a facet with me in the case of a breakdown. Perhaps I should run the facet and have the oem as a backup.

The 40105 appears to be the only Facet model # that is proven gathering from input recieved here with no overflow issues due to
fuel pressure that may be on the high side from other models.
