    Gearing

    Hi there Boy's N Girls,
Whats ya thoughts on gearing for the RD04, I havent looked at what my combo is at the mo but would like your thoughts and advice. My bike is doing 4k rpm at 60mph I think its reving too high. I know it depends on what your doing with the bike, but as Im a Dwarf in the inside leg department serious mud plugging on such a heavy bike is not for me, although I do like off roading with it.
I would like the bike to be geared to suit general useage. I will be useing it for trips two up plus luggage but me and the boss only weigh 20st combined.
Your thoughts please on a post card!
    Regards Tez

    Re: Gearing

I have a 40 tooth rear sprocket and the bike will pull 90mph (But no more - this terminal velocity) at about 6000rpm with me and a friend (Big lads, 13 stone each) and luggage/panniers, verified on a private road on the way back from Oulton Park BSB meet

    Re: Gearing

my 750 AT has a 46T rear, 5000rpm about 70mph on the GPS
may put a 49 on as its a pain in the lanes 4th or 5th keep snicking between them

ATs are great at 6000rpm.. but the 04 motor will be down to 45mpg

    40T too high

oh Sunday looked down to see 7500 rpm when cruising

thought I was in 4th nope xxx mph on the GPS bugger, slight tail wing and so very little wind noise .. cooled it back to 60 guy flashes me, thought .. but I have slowed down, then notice the white van with a window

If your carrying gear and two up I would stick with 49.. gives you the flexibility no higher than 46/16, my bike was Rob's mega miles old motorway long distance machine.. I have left it in the high gear for the TLDs, its been ok offroad too.. Galloway and a Elgin Forrest in deep mud..

the 03 is 49/16 but that revs to over 9k and is smooth all the way , a hoot

have a search I recall a good thread somewhere
