    Africa twin V's GS1150!

I did the Enhanced Rider Scheme yesterday and spent a bum numbing 6 and a half hours in the saddle with an instructor behind me. He was on a BMW GS1150, 40ltr tank looked huge and it looked a nice bit of kit. To cut a long story short, I passed with flying colours, even had a few A's on the sheet and the guy was so impressed with my skills he chucked his keys at me and said take it for a spin if you want. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I duly hopped on and turned the key. It sounded like an intergalactic battle was taking place inside the bike, whirring whizzing noises that immediately said this bike is too complicated for its own good! I went for a spin, lovely handling and the gel seat was so comfy, but there was something baout it I just didn't like, not sure what but it didn't have the mechanical feel and feedback of my AT! In conclusion - I think the AT is better than the GS1150, so there!!!
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

The only major thing I wish the AT had is a shaft drive, other than that the AT is still a great machine.
There is a reason as why they still fetch a good sum second hand.
For everyday driving and easy living in the world of Dual Sport it would be hard to beat an AT.

And for the other mather of Enhanced Rider Scheme it would be appropriate to say; Well Done!

Took a GS of some description out on demo a couple of years ago, and was glad to get back on my bike.

The GS kicked the Twins arse in every way possible ON PAPER, but did nothing for me whatsoever as a bike.

It stood up to ten seconds of rev limiter at a red light quite well though...

Well just to balance things up I wouldn't swap my 1150GS for anything.

It's just the right bike for me.

    Me too

    I had a 1994 AT, back in the 90's and then discovered GS's - had a 1100GS (3 times) and a succession of 1150's and GSA's, even a 12GSA which I hated

The AT was well, well down on power and the seat......................arghh

The Telelver front end on GS's is the dog's dnaglies

Thanks for the congrats, just hope the money paid will see the insurance come down a fair bit!

I guess it is personal choice at the end of the day, the simplicity of the AT is what I love about it, it gives such good feedback when you ride it. But I do understand why some folk go for the GS, it is a tecnological bit of kit with all the whizz and bangs you could want and more.

But you would never get me to swap my AT for one!

wrong they are super simple and easy bikes to live with And a quick spin never works you need at least an hour before you get it but when you do it makes sense best bet is to own both

I must admit that it was only a 10 minute blast, but I knew I loved my AT within 20 seconds of riding it, it felt right for me! I don't think the gel saddle helped the GS, it was as wide as a saddle and I felt like john wayne! I like to sit upfront with my knees into the tank, not really possible on the GS I was on!

I could never have both bikes, I would end up arguing with myself every night!!

    hi
well done mate.. my I A M test was only 2 hrs. the chap i had was a x police rider of 30 years so he new his stuff and was a great rider.
you never stop leaning on a motor bike as you know ,tought me a lot and using IPSAG method, its a great way to rid.. as for insurance it took 10% off. My AT WILL NEVER BE SOLD, its a great bike,, but i am saving for a gs adventure or the new triumph explorer.. taken both out on a tested ride. and enjoyed both, each to there own on motor bikes , just good to get out their and ride what ever floats your boat..
    cheers karl
