One evening I was chatting to several people I was working with about returning too China for a holiday and was told to tour China was virtually impossible as the police were very sensitive about where foreigners may go if unattended.

This makes me realise how lucky I am........I lived in Hong Kong from 93-95 (doing my A Levels, dad working and took family with him). During my time there I was asked by a friends parents to babysit a shipment of perishable goods into China. My friend was a Chinese Italian (mum Chinese, dad Italian) and it was just the 2 of us (the goods were perishable Italian foods that were being delivered to my friends Italian workers who were building a dam in China). I was 18 at the time. We flew for 3 hours into China. Then the goods got impounded. We then had a 4 hour battered car drive to a hotel. The next day we flew home. Apart from the car driver who drove us for 4 hours we were on our own.

Looking back it sounds very dodgy. Im surprised my parents let me go! To this day I have no idea where we went in China. Didnt seem important back then. Got lashed, had a good time.....and got back in one piece.

I bet you are very pleased that your dad let you go into china . I hope to get in on my next lap of the world but i will by a bike in china to ride round on they only can take that bike off me and lock me up and feed me and find

Hi Ian 86 is the year of my land rover and mutley is his nickname...my Africa Twin is an RD04 of 1992 vintage.. I am just a pup at 44 years...

and just today discovered how to split the case on the AT engine as it has dropped a tooth on forth gear so just learning all about it.....I will post some pics of the pulling apart and rebuild if that would be of interest to anyone apart from me lol....

You are only a lad yet you are the same age as my lad i have a 19 49 land rover , ioi land rover 6x6 land rover seris 2 a hight body land rover . 110 county that makes the camal trophy land rover look like a toy , and a few discos , and 1942 wills jeep 1942 bsa m 20 and on and on i have lots of toys . I will visit you when i get back to england . I am now at ibi about 35 miles inland from alicante spain and still on my way home . All the best ian
