New tyres - which ones to get?

Time to get some new rubber for my bike. Here's a list of candidates:

    - Avon Distanzia AM43/AM44
    - Metzeler Tourance
    - Pirelli Scorpion MT90

Avon - 'cos I can find them for £99 a pair, and this seems cheap
Metzeler - 'cos my mate swears they are the best touring tyres ever
Pirelli - 'cos I've used them on my other bikes and they literary transform the bike

Is it a good idea to leave the Bridgstones and move onto something new? Anyone used any of the tyres listed?[/list]

Personally I would choose Metzler Tourance, check their web site to get the right match, as the shops sell you what they make the most on.

FWR In Kennington do both Tourances & Scorpions. I am on my 3rd pair of Tourances from them. A mate of mine has just got some scorpions from them, rates them very highly.
Tourances - approx £160 fitted & balanced - while you wait if they are not busy (cheaper if you do it yourself)
    Scorpions - I think about £130 - £140.
They are open late on thursdays. Check out www.fwr.co.uk

    Cheers

The Avons are really nice, but wear rather quickly. But hey, for 99 quid, who cares Where did you see that offer?

Otherwise I'd go for the Pirelli's but Metzeler are probably very similar because they come from the same factory.

I see the biggest size advertised is 130/80-17, the RD07 is a 140. Or would 130's work just as well?

DIY tyre change - it's one thing to change it but don't you have to balance it as well? You'll need some specialised equipment for this.

For the highway i would choose Metzeler Tourance. More expensive but also much more milage. I had the Enduro 4 for 25000 km's and the tourance are, so far, same same. Only ridden them for 3000km's. Glued to the tarmac and so far not much rubber loss. I payed £190 for them but the prices in UK seems to be much lower than in Sweden...

For offroad TKC80. On tarmac they loose about 1mm/1000km's and in the desert about 4mm/1000km's but that's extreme. This is for the rear tyre. The front doesn't seem to wear at all. Good on tarmac and good offroad. Had them on Iceland and i liked them. I have 7000km's on them and the front will go much longer but the rear only have like 1000 km's left. Good i think. I payed £90 for them.
