FITTING GIVI CRASHBARS TO AN AFRICA TWIN

Allow between an hour and an hour and a half to fit the Crashbars . Put the bike on the centre stand . Carefully remove the shrink wrapping from the bars " this will take about ten minutes as it,s put on very tight " Remove the TOP bolt from the RIDERS footrests on both sides " The BIGGEST washer goes on the brake pedal side the SECOND Biggest washer goes on the gear lever side . Remove the Two front Sump guard bolts and the bolt on the gear lever side " Prop up the sump guard " As it will catch any nuts or washers you drop" so they don,t get lost. Disconnect and remove the horn. Remove the black plastic radiator guard ,NOTE If you make the TWO V SHAPES IN THE BLACK PLASTIC GUARD ABOUT AN EIGTH OF AN INCH DEEPER IT MAKES IT EASYIER TO REFIT. Now remove the OIL COOLER BOLTS " NOTE " the bottom oil cooler bolt is attached to a plate WHICH is held on by the TWO bolts you have to remove to fit the NEW LONGER BOLTS . Thats why you need to "remove the oil cooler bolts first " to get the leverage to remove the bolts.Next remove the two bolts from the frame for the bottom run of the Crashbars , APPLY a dab of grease to the end of the bolts line up the Crashbar bracket and push the bolts through ,Fit the footrest bolt on gear lever side with SECOND Biggest washer through the bracket and tighten up finger tight ."AS YOU WILL NEED TO JIGGLE THE BARS LATER "Move to the other side " This is where you need three hands " Line up the bottom bracket with one hand hold the bolts so that they don.t push back through. " With third hand or head hold Crashbars steady while putting on nuts and washers , Then fit footrest bolt with Biggest washer through bracket and tighten until finger tight .Next make sure the U bolt is not too wide to fit through the holes in the top bracket " It,s very hard to do when on the bike " Feed the U bolt round the radiator mounting on both sides and line up the top bracket ". With a pair of pliars hold the U bolt and push the bracket over the bolt " The pliars stop the U bolt disapearing into the engine " same with the other side Put a nut on without the washer and when all four nuts are on tighten slightly THEN remove each nut in turn refitting with the washer " IT,A EASYIER THIS WAY " When everything is straight tighten up all the nuts and bolts .Refit the black plastic radiator guard , Refit and connect the horn ,Refit the sump guard . Check to make sure all your tools are where they should be "not in sump guard or any where on the bike . Put kettle on or crack open a beer .The GIVI Crashbars look the part on the bike they go well with the black/silver/gold paint scheme on my AFRICA TWIN .The top run of the Crashbars are lower than the AFRICA TWIN LOGO so they do not spoil the side view of the bike. There is a big enough space between the Crashbars and the fairing to get cleaning and polishing also access to the dip stick is o k ." You may need a funnel with a longer neck " to fit into the dip stick hole. The Crashbars do not get in the way of legs or feet when paddling into a space or slow moving .As soon as i get a run on the bike i will let you know about handleing or vibes .fw600vj

Hi Miggy my bike is a RD07 Model ,When i ordered the bars i made sure to point out that the @ was a 1999 RDO7 but i dont think there is a difference in the various Models , From what i could see on the book in the shop it just listed XRV750 no mention of model numbers .fw600vj

I finally got out for a run on the @ today ,What with christmas the rubbish weather frosty roads sub zero tempatures.I covered 50 miles no change in handling ,The bike seemed to be the same vibe wise .I held on to the crashbar " on a quiet bit of road " on each side at a time and could feel vibes but nothing out of the ordinary when doing 40 or 50 m.p.h. . I tried to get a feel for fitting an extra set of footpegs on the crash bars by lifting my feet up to the side of the crashbars again " on a quiet bit of the road " but it felt too awkward ,so i don,t think i will fit them.Great to get out again on the road after so long so im going out tomorrow and i don,t care what the weather is like.fw600vj

Hi, and welcome. Good to see more and more people from everywhere are joining.

Quite interested in the Holland versus Australia story... for AT are not good swimmers...

    Cheers,

    AT Crash Bars

OZcan:you might find there are some fifferences with older AT I had a 91 a couple of years ago 9which I REGRETTED SELLING MINUTES AFTER DOING THE DEAL ..DAMN!) and certainly there are many both mechanical and cosmetic differences which may affect fitting...but ..siting of pegs etc seem very similar.
I would add that the older bikes are heavier and I belive taller although I feel the build quality is better than my 'new' 03 AT.

    Enjoy your trip!!!
