    Riding on Snow

Well, I have finally experienced a Big Trailie on snow... On saturday evening I was going to visit my parents. When I arrived, they had already had 4 inches of snow, and it was still falling. Traction was my biggest worry as I was running the standard tyres, but I found that if I stayed off the middle of the road, and stuck to the gutters, I was able to get up all the hills. Fingers were a little numb, and I am thinking of getting additional auxillary lights next year, but the ride was undaunting, and all things considdered, she performed better than most of the cars.

I was wondering if you can get heated visor elements? The biggest problem I had was snow building up on my visor.

Had the same problem the other day with snow building up on the visor ( not so good) Don't think you would find anything to cure that.

Couple of winters ago when I had my TA I came home in the snow was doing fine until I came across a patch of snow that had bottle ice underneath it, I was only going slow but I still didn't manage to stay on. Be careful out there.

    Riding on Snow

As far as an AT is concerned, I would strongly advise the following.

    1) Put bike in garage
    2) Lock garage door
    3) Get bus instead

The prospect of trying to pick up 450lbs of motorcycle while standing on ice is just too horrific to consider. Its bad enough getting one upright on a good surface.

The alternative, is to use a small lighter more manageable bike.

I would not recommend in any shape or form riding in snow ,buy a Land Rover instead.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I HATE WINTER!! I never did get the funds together to get a Yen-style heated vest, but I can deal with the cold. It's ice I don't like. Paul, how did you manage to stay on? There are patches on the way to work for me too, but because it's all pitch black I can't see them. As a result my backside's clenched all the way. By the way, why is it instinct to clench the buttocks? What good does it do other than to engender a (false) sense that we are somehow in control? Well, now comes the worst part of the year for cold. Are we mice or men??

That makes a lot of sense - the long brown streak should at least alert the police as to which ditch the corpse slid into. Whether they'd want to retrieve said excrement-stained cadaver is open to question, but at least in these temperatures rot won't have set in at least until the snow melts.....

    Lord Stig.

I stay on my bike by sheer good luck, this morning, on my way to work approaching Hurn Airport the roads became more slippery.

Like you I live in the South, also I hate Winter, Ice & Snow.

Also I wish I had fitted my crash bars at the end of my last winter rebuild.
