    Engine Rattle

I know that this has been discussed before but I'm only just suffering from it...... clutch rattle.
Under certain conditions when I pull the clutch in I get a rattle from the engine which soon goes when driving off. Don't seem to get it when stood still though.
I've never ever had any noise like this coming from the engine and I find it a little worrying! The bike has just done 20K and I'm due to service it in the next day or so.
I wonder whether the oil is past its best and that's why its rattling or perhaps just wear? Strange one.
The chain is loose as well and I need to adjust that, don't suppose that could be anything to do with it. Sounds as though its coming from the engine though.

I'm getting the same thing - Can only hear it when stood still, it's too quiest to hear on the move, but it's definitely there. Mine's only done 6k miles, hardly enough time to warm the engine let alone screw the oil...

Mine sounds different depending whether clutch lever is in or out and I think that's pretty standard for all wet clutches.

If yours is juddering during the last bit of clutch connecting as you pull away (worse when you do it with gusto to beat someone away from the lights) then it is caused by grooves in the tangs of the clutch basket. I've had that on my own AT at 70,000 miles and on my last but one DR350. It needs a little work with a file to cure. the downside is that you have to remove the clutch to do it, which also means removing the exhaust down pipes.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Well that's interesting because mine's just stopped after I've changed the oil!
I did investigate the noise properly and it was noisy when the clutch lever was pulled in and I could even feel a vibration corrosponding with the noise when I placed my hand on the clutch side.
I replaced the oil & filter and oiled the clutch lever and the pivot bit, and after a run no more clutch noise or vibration. Strange!
I'll see if it comes back.

You guys are lucky I had a rattle on My AT 02.00 AM Friday morning ridding around some lane in devon, it turned out to be my final drive shaft bearing braking up. this in turn has cracked the crank case and left me with a totaly knakered engine. SO any one know were to get a good second hand engine?.

Still look on the bright side I was out enjoying my self while most sain pepole were sleeping in there beds, and it's amazing how quick the recovery services get out to you.

THE clutch on my 94 xrv 750-R @24000 miles rattles when cold with the lever pulled in, it goes away when warm, i think they all do it.

Sorry to hear about that. Has it anything to do with over tightened drive chain?

Try here for a new engine http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/c...lete%20Engines . At £495 it's not a bad deal.

I would say that in the past I have run with the chain over tight.

But now I do a bit more off road with the bike the extra movement in the swinging arm has not been allowed for.

But as life goes on we learn a little every day, it's just the cost of the learning that herts.
