I'm a happy camper. My ratty old 650 got stamped on 17 months ago. I couldn't bring myself to scrap it. So after all the insurance guff was sorted out I decided to rebuild it as it's a great winter/commuter bike. Sourcing second hand bits for a 650 is a nightmare, but I got there in the end.
Got the salvage for 100 quid.
It needed
front wheel - s/h
front disk + pads - new
front brake line - new
forks - s/h
front spindle - new
yokes -s/h
bars - s/h
front mudguard - s/h
headlights - s/h
headrace bearings - new
footpeg - new
footpeg hanger - s/h
screen - new
and a little TLC. The bearings in the suspension linkage were shagged. 5 bearings at 20 quid a pop stung a bit.
All in I now have a sound (if cosmetically challenged) bike for a tad over 600 quid.
Winter hack-tastic.
