    Battery for the new boy

Hi guys, nice to join you!

First of all: GREAT site indeed! Congratulation

I entered the AT world 1 month ago, but the beast is still back home in Italy, I'll take it here just after Easter break.

In the meanwhile, I'm reading all I can to learn about her many pros and few cons.

Before I use it, I'll have to change the battery but I don't know much about that.

Is any 12V 12 Ah good enough? which one(s) do you suggest? prices? Some internet site showed very different prices, but I liked the range £20-25....

Last question: in this forum, is there a way to search for specific item (for example "battery") automatically instead of checking each FAQ one by one?

    Cheers and good night
    Matt

    Hi, and welcome.

A new battery has to fit inside the battery compartment. So check the suppliers if they have the correct one. Don't know if there is a difference between the RD04 and RD07, so you'll have to check that with your supplier.

    Goodluck.

Go for the best you can buy, [ie same as a new AT comes with] the cost should be around £50. My original battery lasted five years. Make sure that it is a sealed for life battery, due its position under the seat the thing is often forgotten.

I paid around £60 for a Yuasa battery from a Honda dealer. David Silver sells one for £47.50 plus P&P, probably Yuasa as well is my guess. Varta's are a bit cheaper but despite their good reputation I have never been very lucky with their batteries: early "retirements", not much power reserves when the engine does not start easily in sub-zero temperatures. But this was on 2-valve BMW's that usually need more persuasion than ATs to jump into life imho.

This eBay offer sounds interesting: quality may not be the same, even if they'd only last half as long as Yuasa's you still have a reasonable offer. But if you can afford it, go for guaranteed quality, a bad battery can be real pain.

No way are you going to get a really good battery for £20-25. If you plan on keeping the bike get a good quality battery as it's worth it.

Ok, thanks, I'll check the Yuasa then. Anyone knows the exact dimensions of the AT's battery? Seems to me the Haynes manal reports does not report it...

    good night
