adjusting fast idle

Hello, my 98 @ has always failed to idle for more than 5..15 seconds with the choke on before the engine dying with mega-rich fuel mixture. "Always" means the past 20k mls I've had the bike. It has now just over 40 k on clock.

The bike starts great hot or cold, and the revs are initially roughly 1500..2000 rpm with the choke on fully. If it is turned off the max setting even a notch, the engine just stops. Starting from cold I normally turn off the choke almost immediately and then it is the normal question to manually keeping up the revs at 1200 or so for the first mile, until the engine stays idling under it's own steam.

Is there a way to adjust idle speed with the choke on?

Other than this the engine works like a clock and returns just under 5 liter/100 km (approx. 55 mpg) on my daily commute.

Sounds like mine from new. Never been able to leave it idling on choke and walk away. I just start it with no choke when I'm ready to go and ride off gently.

Mines exactly the same.

I put the choke on and If I watch the lever it turns itself off.
If I hold the choke with my finger its fine.

But by the time I am 200yrds down the road it ticks over on its own so
I have never been that bothered about it. The guy I bought it off had owned it from new and he lived with it from new.

Good to know that there are others with the same symptoms. I can sleep at ease now. No more vivid nightmares about stalling twin

Yeah, my choke started to close itself as well after lubing the lever/cable recently.

yep me too until I stripped the airbox for its service and now it works proper well it did this morning anyway idled on choke couple minutes then ticked over a goodun.
To be fair though I very rarely use the choke just fire it up with the throttle it runs better from cold then when i used to use it before it took longer to warm up and idle proper.
Unless I have an airbox fairy will keep you posted
