    Rear puncture repair

    Howdy all,

This has probably been asked a squillion times but here we go again.

I'm fairly confident I can sort a puncture in the front coz I can get the tyre off, but I spent an hour the other evening hopping up and down on the back and I couldn't budge it off the wheel. I mean I couldn't even break the bead and that was using a combination of 13 stone of podge and a bead-breaking tool I'd gotten from Busters.

I know the tube has Ultraseal in it already, but in case of a puncture would it be safe to use that Holts stuff in a can to reinflate the tube and tyre, or is it unsafe for tubes ?

    Ta,
    Paddy.

Use the sidestand to break the bead. With the bike on the centre stand, lower the sidestand and place the wheel underneath. Pull the bike over so the foot of the sidestand is hitting right where the tyre meets the rim. Then just lean the bike over on it - I mean really lean it over, easier with 2 people but possible on your own. It also helps having a bigger footplate on your sidestand.

Not needed on the front. There is no lip inside the rim to get the tyre bead over. If it is a bit tight, just standing on it is enough to get your tyre levers under.

Excellent, I'll try that if I do get a flat, although I even tried driving the car over it but to no avail !

I bought some tyre levers off eBay the other week, then ordered a pair of Anakee's and decided to have a go last week, managed the front after a bit of hassle as for the rear ...............
I don't know wether it will be easier now the rear has been changed since the bike was new. Anyhow I will carry a pair of tubes 'just in case'.
