    Switching to reserve.

Does anyone else have this problem when switching to reserve. If my @ goes onto reserve at speed I have no problems but a couple of times lately it has stalled when at a stop once at a junction and the other just before putting it away for the night, both times due to needing reserve and both times it took a good twenty minutes to get it going again. It is almost like the pump is "gassing" off. Is this a common occurence and is there an easy way to get going again ? Me thinks I'll just leave it on reserve and fill up every two hundred miles.

I've had my RD07 for 3 months and I have only stalled it one switching to reserve - probably user error. It started first time though afterwards.

Apparently the AT fuel-pump, a historic marvel in modern bike-technology, does not cope very well with running dry. It can cut out temporarily (as you describe), and if you persist in doing this, it will eventually cut out forever.
Making sure you never need to switch over is indeed known to prolong the pump's life-expectency (I have read that on German webpages on the AT, linked to by www.atic.org ).

Hmm, didn't realise that. Perhaps I'll start filling up before hitting reserve.

    Reserve? Which model?

My RD03 just relies on the fuel idiot lights. Taps on both side of the tank are just on or off.

On my RD07 there are no idiot lights (would not work anyway for an idiot like me :P ) but one tap with on / off / reserve position. If memory serves me well (it usually doesn't) the RD04 also has twin taps without reserve, but a single idiot light. Let's wait for an RD04 owner to correct that?

the RD04 has two taps yes.....you are meant to leave one turned off as a reserve, so when it runs out on the one side you still have a 'wing' of fuel left

    in practice, i keep forgetting

oh and two warning lights one for low and one for bugger all left ! (both off the left hand wing, so the right should be used as reserve)

sounds like alot of pumps, they don't like getting an air bubble in them, think i'll go with leaving reserve on and topping up regularly, I have two lights on my RD03 trouble is they seem to get confused i.e. the red one come on first and then goes of and then comes on.......etc
