    Belly Pan mounting points

    HI all,

like many i have had a set of crash bars fitted to the bike at some point but this seems to ahve caused a lot of stress on the front mounting points for the belly pan (the two small brackets welded on to the front downtube).
when i say stress i mean they both fell off !!!
i managed to recover one of them and get it welded back on but the other one dissaperaed completely. i get the impression that this is not uncommon.
anyway what i am looking for is some advice on how to fix this, what have others done? is it a matter of getting them refabricated (in which case does anyone have a pattern?) or is it best to make a different type of bracket and weld across the frame? any advice or tips welcome.
apologies if this thread has appeared before

Yeap had the same problem with mine and few years back. The original brackets are a bit thin, so just made up new one for both.
Its simple flat bar welded across the front down tube .
Cut the bar to correct lenght and fit it to the belly pan first, to get holes lined up,weld in some captive nuts (M8's), place into position using a trolley jack or 2 pairs of hands.Mark up its position on the frame, remove plate and tack weld it to the frame. Check it all lines up and weld it proper. Then silver hammerite it. Job done !
Depends if you has access to a welder and the odd bit of steel, if not ...... find a mate that has one (or both)

Next job is to replace your mounting rubbers which will perish.

Just a word of caution, disconnect your battery when you do any welding on the frame, it should be fine but if it shorts bye bye electrical system.

Have the same problem with my Motad engine bars - the brackets snapped after a few weeks of use. Didn't bother welding them back on - just bolted front of the belly pan on the lower engine bars.
