    loud horn

just put one of these on the AT:

    http://www.nippynormans.com/prodinfo...item=1&mitem=2

It bolts straight on, no wiring modifications needed. Only minor complication is that the bolt on the back of this horn is much smaller than the OE item - the nut will pass right through the hole on the Honda bracket! So you'll want a selection of various sized washers. It's a bit of a squeeze with Touratech crash bars but it will fit.

It's much louder than the OE horn, though not loud as the 136db claim might make you think

Slight concerns that the mudguard might hit it when the forks are compressed, but that would only happen if the 'bars were turned quite a lot. I'm only guessing, but if the 'bars are turned at 30 degrees while the forks are fully compressed, that you're about to have a huge crash anyway!

Mounting it in the same place as the OE item, but behind the plastic grille rather than in front, would be neater and avoid any possible fouling of mudguard.

Is this electric horn louder than the Fiamm air horns?
I haven't heard either, but my RD03 horn is so weedy the truck driver just laughed as he drifted across form a layby on the other side of the road and as for Audi drivers
p.s. this is like a proper reply so I hope you feel better it is disheartening when you don't get replies, but worse still when you get lots implying you're a plonker (or is that just me)

Hmmm... the human ear is notoriously bad at judging volume. There's a certain threshold of fsck me that's loud! beyond which you can't really make objective comparisons.

I used to have a pair of Fiamms on a VFR750, this type (not really air horns?) which are similar to the Stebel one I put on the AT:

Fiam claim about 111dB for these, but that's really weedy (a more honest measurement?) than other folks. Have heard others claim about 125dB or 130dB for the Fiamms. If the Stebel is really 136dB, then it's at least 4 times and maybe approaching 16 times as powerful (but remember 10 times more power is only twice a loud to the human ear, roughly).

You can get Fiamm and Stebel horns singly or as high/low pitch pairs; I got a single Stebel as it was an easy bolt-on, and a little cheaper. Having two horns seems like a cool thing to do but won't seem much louder - you'd need 10 horns to get double the (apparent) sound. Having a pair gives a wider spread of frequency so probably sounds more intrusive though.

You need a psychologist to explain how this stuff really works...

There's a certain value in having a low pitched horn. Low pitched noises sound more dangerous. In the animal kingdom, low pitch can only be produced by having something big to resonate (think double bass versus violin), so making a low pitched sound is an animal way of declaring your large size. Which is why, for example, bulls will roar at each other. A bass grunt is a way of announcing I'm huge and I'm going to stomp all over you.

You need a psychiatrist to explain how that stuff really works...

I digress. Ordinary OE type horns seem usually to be quoted at about 10dB, so even if a single Fiamm is "only" 125db it's going to be far louder. There's also these type of Fiamms:

Which are harder to fit (lots of gubbins to find space for), and rather high pitched, but they're proper loud

It looks as if the horns are too loud to be captured on a picture?

A loud horn is nice and a double one even better (and posh as well), but somehow I only use the horn once a year, at the MOT. That event always reminds me how ****e the OE horn is, but it is good enough to pass apparently. I have had enough moments that I recall as "maybe I should have used the horn" but it simply is not a reflex of mine. I should practice more I guess. And then get a louder horn

you're either being surreal, or just cleverer than me!
    (either is perfectly possible)

What you need is some thicker winter gloves. Then you get to use the horn all the time. OK so you were trying to cencel the indicators, but who cares?

Seriously, I use the horn from time to time. Commonest scenario is one of those w*nkers who decide that they'll start pulling out when you're 20 feet away. Are they creeping out to eliminate the microsecond delay they'd incur if they waited for you to pass? Or are they really about to pull out? (Since we all know SMIDSYs can be perpetrated by drivers who were looking right at you).

Nah, it is just that your pictures don't pop up in my browser for whatever reason (without doubt involving my limited cleverness but I appreciate you considered the opposite ).

And I should really practice the use of the horn. I got hit last year when a lorry decided to reverse rather unexpectedly. A quick push on that button might have saved me quite a bit of hassle. Although my AT has got a nice new fairing now, all paid with insurance money
