    TripMaster problems

I've having problems with the tripmaster.
    It's quite strange.
The trips are working but very slowly.
So if I go 10 actual miles it may show as 0.4 miles on the trip or something like that.
The Speedo is working fine. Anyone any ideas as to what it could be?

It could be you were travelling in the countryside. Country miles are notorious for being much smaller than their innercity cousins. How many times have you asked a yokel how far to a petrol station. They always say just a few miles and it always turns out to be about 45.

I had a trip meter that didn't go slowly, it used to stop registering mileage some of the time which is unoticeable unless you stare at it constantly. I tracked it down to one of the block connectors behind the pod being corroded with salt and the wire had broken off the terminal but still touched some of the time. The numerals never stopped displaying, but eventually I noticed that the tripmeter was not keeping up with my mileometer on the speedoface.

    Thanks for the reply Yen.
I had a quick look at the weekend, which turned in to a major operation and took all day with the tank and all the plastics coming off.
I'd plumbed my cigaratte lighter socket in to the power to the trip master and I convinced myself that this was the problem.
So I plumbed in a feed directly from the battery which is what took the time.

I thought I'd fixed the problem though as on a test ride it seemed to be ok, however today it came back again and its f'kin annoying! Arrggghhhh.

I'm now methodicly working through the tests in the workshop manual to see if they help. Rather unhelpfuly I'm at the bit which suggests that I should either be replacing the speedometer or the trip computer.

Didn't someone replace their tripmaster with something? If so what with and does it have a trip built in?

My mates tripmaster doesn't work either. There's power to it but, all that is in the display are a row '0's. He's going to ditch it (it looks like an old clock radio IMHO anyway) and mount his GPS where the tripmaster was. I think that Honda wanted the Tripmaster to look like a GPS but, at the time they were too expensive to actually fit one to the bike.

Well I've just had another stab at it.
Theoretically if you turn the front wheel you should get 0.6V pulses but I'm damned if I see those. The strange thing is that I know it works sporadically, so I'm wondering if I can't measure 0.6V pluses on my multimeter.
    Hmmmm.
Anyway I'm no further on really.

Are you sure it hasn't just "hung". This usually means it displays all figure 8s but it's worth trying before throwing it away. I think you have to disconnect both battery terminals for about 5 minutes then reconnect and try looking at it again.

Thanks Yen. Yes your right '8's are displayed across the screen not '0's. It's worth a try. We'll give it a go and see what happens. Bob.

This should tell you what to do to reset it if it is hung.

my counter has started playing up..at first it showed only about 0.3 miles for a 1.2 mile trip then slowly this reduced to about .1 per 20 miles.. did everything on the front, checked it was still connected but no change...Bought a new unit went to fit it and noticed one of the pins (in the corner) on the multi plug was all green and horrible, so I cleaned it up Good news it now works perfectly, bad news I have a unit to sell...
I remembered this topic and wondered if it was a common fault, or at least can anyone explain why only 1 pin was different???
