    Clutch Problem

The clutch is dragging quite badly on my AT and adjusting the cable doesn't make it go away. Having changed gear with much noise and gearbox abuse, there is no evidence of slipping.
The bike has not been used for a while, could that be the problem or could it be the grade of oil (but it is Motorcycle 10W 40)? It does improve when warm though. The mileage is only (reputed to be) 21k so I would not have thought it has worn out but it I have done very little mileage on it as yet. Haynes manual point to it being warping of the smooth clutch rings. Has anyone any experience of this?

Any advice would be most welcome!

    Richard,
Its could be the clutch cable is one its way out ,does it move freely or any fraid(?) ends.
Next it could be the clutch plates have worm grooves into the basket . Its stops them moving properly but as you say its low mileage and shouldn't happen.
Give it a good run does it make a difference if its hot or cold.

    Next ....

Try slipping the clutch when riding, just in case the plates have crap on them. also disconnect the cable at the clutch end and pull and push to see if there is any resistance or if it is frayed

It could also be the brand of oil. I have been running my bike for over past 15k with semisynthetic car oil (Castrol GTX 10W40 infact) and stick with it cause the gearbox was so much smoother with it compared to e.g. Shell VSX 10W40 bike oil. The clutch feels ever so slightly slippier with the car stuff but I didn't have any slipping even when offroad.

I have changed the oil and adjusted the cable but its no better so I guess I'll have to strip the clutch down. Thanks for your advice, I hope I don't find anything catastrophic when I'm in there.
    Regards, Richard
