Okay, I have NEVER had a bike where I was happy with the wind protection. The AT is no exception, and I am determined to get this sorted. I have limped along for two years with a Touratech spoiler stuck on the screen, which I have taken off/put back on/fiddled with from time to time. This weekend two different things happened. First, I discovered that putting the spoiler in its fully down (i.e. least-angled) position made things pretty smooth. Great, think I. Then the second thing happened, which was that I bought a Roof Boxer helmet. Bugger me, now the turbulence is back and it sounds like I'm being smacked on the side of the helmet with sticks! Spoiler position doesn't make any difference. The helmet is quieter in full-face mode, but that's not what I want.
SO. What is the definitive solution to this windscreen malarkey? To recap all info in one place: I am slightly under 6'2" tall, ride an RD07 with original seat, original windscreen and Touratech spoiler. This keeps the wind very nicely off my upper body but sticks a huge wake right around where my head is. Effect is variable according to helmet, but then clearly the helmet is in the wake.
I'm not quite going to say 'money no object', but I am prepared to spend a reasonable amount to buy a better screen and/or seat combination to move my head out of the airstream. Options I have seen are: (a) Powerbronze 'flip' screen, which looks about the same as the standard screen but with a built in spoiler; (b) Touratech tall screen, which is pricey and of indeterminate 'tallness'; (c) Touratech single-seat mod, which I have read is lower than standard. I have also considered putting the Touratech spoiler on a taller screen, but the fact that Touratech say 'FOR ORIGINAL SCREEN ONLY' suggests that this has probably made at least one person's screen snap off in the past.
I'm sure there must be lanky people out there. Being tall is making my motorcycling miserable and I don't want to buy a Guzzi California with a barn door on the front. Surely it's not beyond the bounds of possibility to create a wind-free zone around head height on an Africa Twin?
Help me out.
