    Replacement Trip Computer

Well seeing as my Digital Trip seems to have gone belly up and due to the fact that I rely on it, I was looking for a replacement.
    I then came across this!

I want one, and I want it now! £59.99 for the kit.

Anyone seen anything similar that compares?

Well, these compare but only with the functions, not the price

How reliable are these magnetic sensors, though? I have not had good experiences trying to use cycle ones on my (former) XT600 - they seem extremely sensitive to sensor positioning. Admittedly the photos at that site look like the fixing is pretty solid, but wouldn't it be better to have something that plugged into the speedo drive?

I am tempted, though, as I have a KPH speedo and trip computer, which is a bit of a pain. I haven't had the courage to take the trip apart and do the MILES resistor mod yet! I also couldn't find mention of a specific XRV fitting kit, or did I miss that?

I've seen a lot of trail bikes and converted motox bikes that use the Trailtech computer. If it works off-road then it's a fair bet it'll be okay on-road. Go for it, take photos, post a report!

I use a Sigma BC1200 bike computer on my XT 600 and have a other one lying ready to fit on my AT.

The BC1200 has a function called NAV/PLUS. This is a tripmeter setting that can be reset with a touch of the reset button. The buttons are extended to the indicator switch. Left signal is to scroll through the menu's, right is reset.
For my AT the buttons will be made on a small plate under the horn button. Not a priority at the moment so can take a while before i fit it.

This is the set up on my XT.

Signal comes from a small magnet on a spoke. No problem with it up to now. The speed and distance is almost the same with the GPS V. The original speedo is very good too i discovered with the GPS.

I think for the price Dave you would be foolish not to give it a go. Second hand trip meters on ebay seem to fetch £100 now and then. It looks neat as well.

Good luck if you plump and let us all know how you get on.

I've mailed them to find out which fitment I should order.
That's assuming they know which one will fit an AT.
I am very very tempted though and will probably try to make one fit either way!

Taking the trip apart to do the work is really simple and i did it in work in no time. By doing the mod it will display digital kph. It won't let you change to MPH even but removing or adding a resistor at the mile part of the circuit cause i tried.

This will show you how the do it.

    Dave,

I have fitted the TrailTech Endurance on my Yamaha WRF400 Enduro bike. I haven't ridden that much with it yet but it has been ridden round a motocross track (including suspension bottoming jumps) for about an hour with no ill effects as well as various road and trail rides. When I was in the US (California) I had a friend who had one (or something very similar) on his YZ250 and he used to race and ride every weekend with no problem so I don't think there should be any question of durability assuming the part is installed correctly.

The sensor mounting is much beefier than a mountain bike speedo and if I remember right I had to drill a hole in the mounting area of my brake caliper to bolt the sensor onto.

The preferred pickup is to replace one of your disc bolts with the magnetic one supplied in the kit, if this is not possible then I think there was another magnet supplied that could be attached to the wheel spokes similar to a mountain bike setup.

With the disc bolt setup I think the system is very robust so my advice would be to check the thread on the AT front disc bolts and make sure to order a kit with the same replacement bolt thread.

I believe there are generic fitment kits for this speedo for both USD and regular forks maybe these would be the best bet.

The standard handlabar mount for the display unit is a bit flimsy but I suspect you would want to fabricate a new bracket anyway to mount the unit in place of the Tripmaster.

I'll try and take some pictures of the installation tonight if you're interested to see more.

Also I've found a scanned version of the instruction manual which I'll email to you separately.

FYI this part costs $80 in the US, not sure about delivery cost.
