Okay, add them here as you think of them,

Do you seem to go through clutch cables quite quickly? Do they unravel or break at the clutch end? Do you tell people it's cos you're such a hard riding biker, the cable can't take it?

Look at the bracket that holds the last part of the cable. If it is slightly twisted the cable inner saws itself against the cable outer. A bit of gentle bending so the cable inner emerges dead straight will add years on to the life of the thing.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Don't assume anything electrical is knackered until you've taken it apart and cleaned it, especially anything that looks coppery or brassy and has a wire attached.

I had the rectifier, starter motor and battery priced up and almost on order till Robelst pointed out the now obvious, the copper studs on the starter solenoid aren't supposed to be green are they!

I really should know better, my brother trained as an auto-electrician and spent his whole apprenticeship stripping starters and the like de-gumming them and putting them back together

Always use "never seize" or "copperslip" on any nut bolt ect before reassembly. When putting front or rear wheel back on your bike put plenty of HMP grease around the dust seal, it helps stop the ingress of water and dust.
