iridium sparkplugs, how long is to long?

Had iridium plugs in my twin for 23k miles, it starts fine and i get 50+ m/galon no splutering.

Bought another set a while ago ready to go in but I'm just wondering how long should i leave this ones in, don't wanna do any damage.

Can the iridium plugs be cleaned the normal way? Never had them out.

The normal plugs need replacing every 8000 mls according to the Honda schedule. I replaced mine at 12 and they looked fine really. Irridium ones are supposed to outlive conventional plugs, I have seen intervals varying from 30k up to no less than 100k
If i were you I'd leave them in for at least another 5k or so, maybe take one out to get an impression of their condition. You can't do real damage, worst that can happen is that starting and idling start to get less accurately. The thin electrodes are supposed to burn clean very easily so don't worry about extra cleaning (unless your bike burns oil by the gallon ). I don't really believe in the hype of better performance but seeing yours are doing so well after 24k they do indeed live up to their high life-expectency. That is good news for AT owners, considering the pain to get the front one out

Thanks, i didn't buy them for extra performance, i just wanted the better fuel consumption and longer life, well worth it, makes the bike much smoother.

If anybody interested make sure you buy the ngk ones, the honda ones are actualy ngk but says honda as well on the box but more expencive. Tipical honda, same with coyo bearings.

Thanks for that, did not realise Honda sold irridiums with their own brand name. Interestingly, David silver sells the conventional ones for 2 quid only, they are "Honda-boxed" if I remember correctly (but contain good ol' NGKs).

Do you happen to know what type/code NGK irridiums the AT needs? (don't start digging through the garbage bin for the boxes if you don't )

Wemoto sell the Irridium plugs, about £8 a piece from memory (so probably wrong), they list them under the bike's model ref so you shouldn't end up with the wrong ones?

Hang on... here's the page for the 96-98 RD07 http://shop.wemoto.com/index.dyn?oid=5834400

Hmm, sold to "funk7887", I wonder who that might have been?

Thanks for the information. I am tempted to buy only one (to replace the "front-plug" of the front cilinder), must be my Dutch / Scottish origins Alright, alright, I will get all four
