    XRV 650 overheating

I live in hot country Gran Canaria) and my 650 is in the red after only only 20 minutes. I have the radiator fan on constantly, but its not much help. Will fitting a 750s oil cooler help? Has anyone done it? Any other "cool" ideas?

    Thanks people. Stu.

    Hello Stu
Have you checked that the rads are clean?
You could try replacing the coolant with a summer only coolant, I have had some success doing this on other bikes that overheat.
    Good luck.

Have you checked for leaks if it wont pressurise it will boil everytime, so check your radiator cap too.
    And your thermostat.

Good choice of bike, I love XRV650's. I had quite the opposite problem with mine here in tropical England, and it never moved off the "cold as hell" stop.

A couple of things worth noting. If the fins in the rads are damaged, bent over, rotted away, full of dead flies or cow cack, the cooling system will suffer. Back flush through the rads with a pressure washer, from the engine side towards the front, you'll be surprised at the amount off ****e that comes out.

Another thing once favoured by racers until it was banned, is a product called "Water Wetter", which is an anti corrosive, which apparently also gives better cooling properties. Never used it myself, but a few I know in the racing fraternity swore by it. Unfortunately, I've no idea if its still available or where you can get it, but it may be worth trying before going to any real expense.

    Good Luck

    Bob

I haven't heard of this myself, but increasing the glycol content (anti-freeze) should give the same effect as it reduces the viscosity of the plain water, whether you can actually get anti-freeze out there is another problem
