Electrics Sorted
Great my bike now charges the battery.
After nearly a year of problems and two new rectifier / regulators, and a stator rewind, problem is over.
When I rebuilt the engine the other year, after a few days I had a rattling noise which was put down to contamination in the water and the particles hitting the water pump impeller, that went away and came back once in a while. Just before my original rectifier failed, I hade one hell of a rattling noise coming from the left side of the engine this happened when I arrived home. Having removed my bike gear, went out to restart the bike. All noise gone ran as normal.
In desperation I managed to find a retired Mechanic who worked from home. He spent a long time trying to find why the bike would not charge under load, including phoning Hondas tech line. It came to light that a clip which holds the stator wire to the cover had failed, and was hitting the rotor. Great I thought my cock up did not tighten the bolt. After thinking it was my fault he then remembered undoing the bolt. It looks like the clamp had failed.
He was surprised that my bike worked at all, with all the metal particles around the rotor, and with the extra load of lights the current was running to earth.
John is a excellent Mechanic who I would recommend without question, the only problem he is retired and only works for cash, also the person who rewound my stator is retired.
All that skill and knowledge is without question.
The total cost £175. £60 for the rewind plus £20 P&P next day [sent Saturday, back Monday]
