    Chain Slider

I drove about 450 miles in the pouring rain the other day and when I parked up and looked around the bike I noticed that the chain had been polished to quite a good shine on the inner sideplates.
I've finally managed to have a good look and it looks as though the lower chain slider has two slots deep enough cause this polishing.
So, I'm assuming that this is a sacrificial part (the slider), and wonder how easy is it to replace - is this a normal service part?

Secondly , after taking the bashplate off I discovered that the tabs that should be holding it to the front of the frame aren't. They've broken off and now only the crashbars are holding the front edge in palce. My thinking is that it's probably OK like this, but I'd welcome any opinions!

    Thanks in advance

    -Simon

Forgot to mention that I'm assuming that the rain washed off most of the Scottoilers oil - I forgot to increase the drippage, D'oh!

Two grooves is normal, it is sacrificial. The time to change it is when the grooves are nearly as deep as the outside depth otherwise the chain will eat your swingarm. To change it should really require the removal of the swing arm, but on my old DR350 I just cut through the part that goes around the swing arm pivot, pushed it on and bolted it to the swingarm as normal and it was fine for years after.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!
