    Headlight bulbs

    I'm a complete electrical numpty.

Tonight I noticed that the headlight beams on my RD03 have swapped themselves?!? When I flick it to high beam, they dip and vice versa.

Both bulbs have recently been replaced within a few weeks of each other. I assume that they are 'wired' opposite to the old bulbs, or should I be looking elsewhere. Haven't touched anything else electrical on the bike in years.

The headlights are Barry White anyway, whichever beam they're on. It's just bugging me.

    Cheers

Squirt everything inside and out (but not the bulbs!) with WD40, wriggle and jiggle the switches and try switching them a few times, see if this sorts them out, mine are just the same, I guess the RD03's are just getting a bit tired by now?
Hard to see how you could have connected the bulbs up the wrong way round, but worth a check and make sure you have the correct bulbs, but again if the connector fits Ok I can't imagine they woud be "wired" differently, but you never know with this electromajickery

    Yes, what he said...

Also, this could be a switch issue and not a bulb/socket issue. I once had to remove the switch on my Transalp for the turn signals and clean them with fine grit sandpaper... just to make them work again. Turned out great. If you fall short... teehee short... with the bulbs do check the switch over. Maybe a quick spray might make 'em work right again, but you'll probably end up taking it apart to make it stick. Also, use dialectric grease on the contacts. This will help prolong it's life.

We RD03 guys have to stick together... we're the last of a misplaced breed!

Cheers guys. I think it's the bulbs. The beam switch works fine. I regularly scoosh the bike over with WD40. It's as close as it comes to getting a clean.

I recall I thought it'd popped one of the pilot bulbs after I had changed the first bulb as the bottom section of the other lamp lense wasn't as illuminated as the one with the new bulb. I didn't look too closely though and promptly forgot about it. I preplaced the other bulb a few weeks later.

I just noticed this morning that they both now illuminate the same lense pattern on dipped. If I switch to high beam (really low) the illumination in both lower lense drops.

    Weird???

If I dip mine I get a more or less straight line accross the back wall of the garage, on full there is just the central bit illuminated as if it's just one big lamp.
have you checked the battery charge it may be dipping on full beam 'cos you ain't got enough juice?
