I'm looking for a workshop manual for me new toy. I can either go down the Haynes (£20) road or on e-bay there are CD's with a a manual in PDF format for a couple of quid.
Any thoughts on one or the other?

I have a slight illegal copy (.pdf) of the haynes. It is okay... but when working I miss the feel of a real paper copy. And running to the computer every other 5 minutes isn't that efficient either...
I'd go for the paper one, if you intend to use it a lot.
I know someone who will come and rant over the quality of the haynes manual...
Just wait a minute..![]()

The Haynes is good BUT - unfortunately you don't get exploded diagrams as per Clymer manuals.
Both. I was given a link to a pdf version from this site and can either pass that on or email you the document (PM me). The benefit of that means you can print out the pages you want, get them covered in grease and dirt and then bin them. But I did end up buying a version because it is actually easier to flick through a hard copy looking for what you want.

I have the Haynes manual and also downloads for the TA Honda manual from Transalp.org which are handy in the workshop. Also the most used pages (for torque settings...) I have the pages laminated. Didn't know Clymer did one for the AT Recycler. I suppose being honest I just get everything and anything available as long as it doesn't cost tooo much
It's great for bedtime reading!!! Anorak? Where???
I bought the CD version off ebay and print out the pages as above.....only problem is the Haynes doesn't cover the RD03! Bugger!
Photo's aren't very good on the CD
They don't, which is a shame.Originally Posted by ChrisHXS
I use Honda manuals, all of which I've sourced on eBay, including Honda binders to put them in.
For the XRV750 you should get these on UK eBay.
For the XRV650 you'll need to look at French, German or Italian eBay and expect to pay a fair bit more (as usual!!). The closest wiring diagram to the XRV650 that's easily available is that of the early Transalp.
The Haynes one is OK, supplemented with common sense or a Honda one.
The best tip I can give you for Honda manuals is to search on XRV650 or XRV750 as most of them are sold by dealers who just list them by what it says on the cover, and wouldn't know what an Africa Twin was if it ran them over!!

I've got paper OE workshop manuals for the RD04 and the RD07. I just went into local dealers and ordered them. They are photocopies in ring binders, cheaper than a Haynes and better in my opinion. It's going back a while but I think they were about a tenner.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.
1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!
