View Full Version : Southern England meetup in Feb?
Anyone fancy a gathering somewhere south of the M4?
I wouldn't want to organise a ride out, mainly because I wouldn't know the first thing about it, but wondered if anyone fancies meeting up for a brew and checking each others bikes out?
Aiming for the end of Feb would give us a little time to work out when and where.
Anyone interested?

Does depend on the date but I'd be up for this too!

I work not too far from you so would be up for a meet. Can't do during the week at the end of Feb as I'm during the week with work. Bike also needs an MOT in Feb.
P.S any decent places to get my bike MOT'd near you?
Cheers
James
I too can't make a meet up during the week, so it'll be the weekend or not at all.
As for the MOT, no idea, my AT hasn't had one yet, so I'll be looking myself soon
email me if you want to get together before then

Anyone else interested?
At this rate we'll be looking at Fleet Services I reckon.
Come on you southerners.. a chance to have a brew and look at someone else's bike!!!

Love to come and meet up with you lot, unfortunately due to the demands of retail work it's Sunday or nothing. I'll keep me eyes peeled.

Fleet sounds fine, what date?
-Simon
Sounds good to me - What about the last weekend in Feb?
I was thinking more of meeting up in the Andover area, then maybe a trip down to the coast. Bournemouth or Poole maybe?

I've suggested Fleet at the moment, going by where people live. Mainly it's people in London that have responded, and half way between Wilts/Hamps and London is Fleet..ish.
London to Bournemouth is a looong way, and as I said, I'd rather just get together to meet the people and the bikes than go for a ride out where I'll not be able to talk to anyone. And I've never done a ride out before, so that's far too much hassle to organise; mainly from the how it's done point of view.
Agree with you Cie!
At least by meeting up at Fleet (or similar) we can then all talk about a ride out or something for the next time we all meet up! :D
Sure you're not all just thinking about going easy on the deriere?

I'd be up for it if I'm off. Work a four on four off shift at the moment so not able to make every weekend. LB.

If I'm out of the sling and allowed (and strong enough) to ride the bike, I'll be there.
But it is a bit dull doing the M3/M25. It's not far from Caveman's patch so he probably knows a good little ride. Otherwise down by West Meon is a great windy road.

We've not been specific yet, so I'll make a bid - Feb 26th is ideal for me, as it falls on a long weekend
Me too! Now all we need to do is decide on time to meet!
Should be there too hopefully.
Time.... well, assuming that we all get up at 9 on a Sunday, leave the house by 10, maximum of 2 hours travel to the meet means it should be at 12.
Now... where do we want to meet? Does Fleet Services satisfy what we're after? If anyone has somewhere more suitable in this area (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Fleet&btnG=Search&ll=51.276522,-0.842514&spn=0.182554,0.543823) then please shout

Mind if I come.
Not at all! I've only met Chad and Caveman, and that's part of the reason for the meetup.. see you there
This should be good and we can look to have a little chat about more regional meets and ride outs - Once we get the first one out of the way it will be alot easier to arrange others! Roll on End of Feb!!! :D

Cant wait now, sounds like fun, check out the thread for the regional map and see wot you think about that, have our own group in the southwest or even include London in that group..... :P
Which side has the best facilities?
One side has the lorry park which'd be a great place for us to hide away, unless you all want to show off???
jvaughan
31-01-06, 12:01 AM
South side is better, also has a larger lorry park. The only downside is that when travelling south, you have to go a further 8 miles before you can turn around (Junc5).
Travelling North, you can just nip up to Junc 4A, its only 2 miles...
Im available on the 26th, travelling up from Andover.

Yes !! Southside of the services at 12 noon on the 26th which i belive is a Sunday, so its old grannies in the robin reliant or sports bikes on the road we just have to contend with :P

Picking up my @ at the weekend, Fleet is 90 mins away, so should be able to make it up there and introduce myself, hopefully pickup some tips..
Can I make a suggestion, a couple of miles down the road (or up the road), is a small village called Hook, it's right off the M3, couple of nice small pubs, a nice big Tesco for sarnies and Coffee, and no rip-off service station prices..
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=Station+Road,+Hook,+Hart,+Hampshire,+RG27&ll=51.278884,-0.962334&spn=0.160424,0.271568
It's literally 2 minutes off the M3, and a decent stopping place. I regularly stop there on the M3, for sarnies and coffee, instead of Mc-Donalds and £5 pots of tea, down the road...
The pub is this one (stayed here a couple of years back also).

Don't think I'm free that weekend, but I used to work in Hook - Might I suggest the pub car park next to Tesco's? Pretty sure it's called the Raven. It's separated from Tesco's by a railway line and station, but there is a bridge to get to tesco's if you want a cheap sarny rather than a pint.
Can't see their car park being too rammed over a weekend, so I wouldn't have thought there'd be any problem having a few bikes there for a while... :)
So can we say The Raven!!!
As they are so close I'm sure we'll find each other - the big clue being anyone on a Honda @,Trans or Varra could be one of our number...

Raven is good for me. Either way, they are within spitting distance, so i'll ride past Tescos, if nobody is there, I'll goto the Raven.
Raven is better suited. Got hot drinks and grub etc etc, and the carpark is less likely to be chaos with 80yr old Sunday Micra drivers..

We've decided (somehow  ) on the Raven In Hook - you might see some people in Tescos - they are very close though...
See you there! :D
Hi all. Took the bike in for MOT today and passed no worries. So see you all next sunday. Cie and J vaughn, wanna meet in Andover on the way up?
Well, I am free that Sunday so up for this one!
I am based up North but hey, any excuse to see fellow AT's
Based on the fact that I will be travelling a fair distance don't want it to be a wasted trip where I turn up at the wrong location, so any chance someone can decide on a venue :D
My two pennies .. keep it simple. In my opinion if we stick with meeting at Fleet services on the southside of M3 is the best plan.
If people then want to go have fun annoying the locals at Tesco or to go get a deserved pint can makes those arrangements at Fleet services.
Anyway's, got this in my diary and looking forward to swapping boring stories about AT's !!
Hello
I must admit I thought we'd decided upon 12:00 pm in Hook. It's not far from the M3 motroway (someone's posted a map) and the venue is the Raven - (Tescos is next door so basically the same place). It will be more sociable in Hook and cheaper!
So is this 'the' plan?
Man up North
17-02-06, 09:34 AM
The plan is 99% of the group are meeting at the Raven in Hook, I think it will be far cheaper and better for food/drinks at the pub, and as once said ,its just round the corner from tescos and the services...
Good with me
In my diary .. sorry for generating confusion.
It was just that I was writting my reply at the same time as the posting finalising the venue was being written!! Ooopsss

The Hook meetup, is pretty simple to get to, and has the advantage it's accessible from BOTH directions on the motorway, whereas the Fleet meetup is not at a motorway junction, so depending on which direction you arrive, you have to go past it anyway (to the Hook junction), and then come back to get the right side with your bike.. (unless you want to cross the bridge on foot).
Here is the actual location:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Station+Road,+Hook,+Hart,+Hampshire,+RG27
(Whack in your postcode and click the "To Here" link in the tootip to get directions from your home).
I noticed that the map does not show the M3 junction number. It's JUNCTION 5.
So the final arrangement, is Ravel Hotel, Hook 12:00. Sun 26th???

Will be going across the north of the plain or over to Marlborough then drop down. Either way I'll join the A303 at Andover. However, spoke to Paul Cave last week and bought a set of motech crash bars. Quality guy that he is, if they're in on time, he offered to fit them for me on my way up to Hook. I have now gotta be in Bedford at 4pm (with car) on a work-related issue. Could've made it if I was taking the bike - but i'd look a plonker in a suit (and it would be a bit chilly).

Hi all, Nice meeting you all , and seeing every body else's bikes. Great location and nice food, Burger was really nice..
Only two things spoilt it, it was cold and the battery on my MP3 died on the way back. Good to see everyone, pretty good turnout, considering the cold weather. The ride home was eventful, with the idiot reversing up the motorway exit, and a 3 car accident a few miles further down the M3, no doubt they were all tailgating, so no sympathy..
Quite a handy venue, if I do say so myself :-) Warming up back home, with a cuppa tea. Definately need some proper bike leather trousers, need to speak to Chad, see where he got his extra lanky leathers from.
Anyway, a pic...

Decided on the bacl sw-motech crashbars, now to see if I can get some for 110Euro, instead of the £110 we get charged over here...

Good to see some of the people who'll be helping me pick up my KTM on Salisbury Plain in March :D
Got a couple of photos on my blog www.helliwell.me.uk
I must work out how to get that top box of my bike to try and reduce the amount of weaving over the motorway I was doing in the cross wind on the way back!
Hi all
Nice meet up :D . The ride home was warmer then the ride down. Great place to have a meet up. The ride through the ford was good, must find some local ones to do.
See you all soon

I was there, where was you??? I tip my lid to whoever was riding the RW&B @ on the M25 northbound around 2:50 this afternoon. I saw you wave, mate. Thanks. :salute: Got to the Raven but the rest you lot was all gone. Some nice old geezer asked If I was s'posed to meet a buncha bikers there. I said yeah, and he said they all went away. A solitary rideout for GeoBloke and the Blue Twinky. Brought my snazzy digital camera and all.......

Sorry we missed you. What time did you get there? Man up North and myself were the last to leave, at about 3:30PM.
Sorry mate,
Now I know that you're not a bunch of weirdos I'll plan to stay a lot longer next time. As it was SWMBO was waiting to go out.

Musta just missed you. Left Aylesbury just around 2:15. I stopped for fuel at Fleet services at 3:14. I figure 5-6 mins to tank up and pay. Drove direct to the Raven. Musta missed you lot by a matter of minutes. Kept an eye out on the M3 for @'s. A bit disappointing to turn into the car park and find you're the only (decent) bike. Had a quite beer amongst the rugby types.
So I'm guessing that WAS Man up North on the M25. Knew I was too late but it was the best I could do.
yeah geo bloke....Twas me.
You can always spot an @ from afar.
Rose the left hand to you !!
Bloody cold in the am though.
Barstewards took the piss out of me at the Raven as mine was the cleanest there. Not my fault if the track round my living room is litter free

Yeah, a good meet, sorry about disappearing as soon as you got the food MacP. Now all we need is a date in March.. and April.. and May ;)
I wondered if it was something I said but I was over 1.5 hours late!

Cheers, mate!! Knew I'd probably miss the Hook-up but at least I saw another XRV'er (even at 160mph relative speed!) . Pay no attention to the cheeky barstewards(- the "stew", eh?) . Gutted I missed you all, though. Was really looking forward to it. Next time, eh?

It was great to meet you all, I'm sad to have only broken own "water crossing " cherry, but there's still plenty of time!
Looking forward to seeing you all on Salisbury Plain in three weeks.
Cheers

Hi all. Thanks to everyone who turned up it was nice to meet and put faces to names. Maybe next time we could get to do a bit of a ride out. Fair play Slimie for giving a test ride, and he even brought the bike back.
Cheers

Yeah, who'd a thunk it! We're all such lovely, cuddly people really, we just hide behind the "rufty tufty, off road, big boots, leather 'n' loud exhausts" image but once you get to know us...
Cheers
