Over a cup of coffee the other day with Boxer Dog and McVicar we got to talking about a small trip to France for a day or two.
I haven't ridden abroad yet and I fancy a small trip to whet my appetite.

So is anyone else interested in this?

This will not be a huge rush around stuffing in as many miles as we can, but more of a very leisurely amble.
Ideally if we could cram it in to a weekend, perhaps travelling over Friday night, with Saturday to explore and coming back Sunday?

Hello Dave

That's a good idea - I've never ridden abroad either and the idea of a slow paced ride over a weekend sounds ideal.

Consider this a hand in the air! :D

As per our conversation I guess I better start looking at prices for the ferry.

Sometime in the summer June - Sept. Any preference? I will see what deals we can get on the boat.

Was thinking Friday night ferry Portsmouth to Cherbourg the return on Sunday night Ferry from Le Havre to Portsmouth. A grand total of 143 miles though we can of course detour.
Sleep on Boat on Fri, Hotel on Sat night, Sleep on Boat Sun night, Back to work Mon??

Even had a mate on his ST1100 offer to come and tow his trailer to carry our kit.

Sounds interesting and I'd be up for it, subject to work and swmbo

The price seems to be in the region of £120 for the return ferry journey but I will keep shopping around to see what i can get. Hotels are normally quite cheap.

Although not strictly a virgin(french or otherwise) I could be up for this if it fits between one or two prior arrangements. May even have to bring the missus in order to get a pass.

Keep me posted.

Not first week in July or first week in August please.

Probably best to avoid both those months cos of school holidays etc. Will stick to June or Sept

SUGGESTED DATE

9 - 11 JUNE 2006

Any chance of the 2 dates.

My missus can't make the June date (I can), but can make Friday 29th Sept she thinks.
She'd quite like to join in if possible.
Guess its a case of seeing who's interested the more the merrier.

Hi all, I would love to come on this run , I love riding in france and have done many miles , the french road are way better than here , got some great tips , Bin the hotel idea, try IBIS or Fomula1 you'll find them a lot lot cheaper and let me know how far down your thinking of going . I have a farm in a small village called Mouzon in the Charente region S/W. and my brother who is there now also rides (Ninja R9) ..Free camping on the farm (Admin), theres an idea for a week away for fellow @ riders if they want to stay there or use it as a stop over or even a central point . also do great deals on a dutch holiday park with a 6 berth bungalow just futher down the road.. www.villagelechat.nl
Hope you dont mind this post. P.M me for more details if anyone is interested :P

I am very relaxed about the whole thing. Everyone can do as they like, some can hotel, some can camp, etc etc

Just a general bimble for a couple of days along the top of France was the idea. Maybe a longer trip down to the south next time.
Been to France loads of times and enjoy the roads up north as much as down south.

Hi, MCN usually has some sort of deal with the channel ferries over the summer, think it takes about 30% off the price; might be an idea to wait until they come up with a deal.

we were thinking of taking a weekend trip to Le mans in May for the MotoGP (may 21st) and tie it in with a long weekend having an explore prior to doing the 'big' trip in June. Don't know if this would interest anyone?

Oh, OK then.

Also got a drinking posse rounded up from the supermoto boys down this way.

Should be an amusing weekend.

(M - remember we've got to take an extra day to go check out these sheds, too  )
