Repairing plastics (fairing etc...)

I may be trying to teach my granny to suck eggs :oops: , but......

Both Araldite and Ceys do an epoxy sausage. Both are about 3 inches long and keep for a long time if wrapped well. It's a dual compound "masse" which is like putty. Rub it between your fingers (wear rubber gloves - it's a bitch to get off) and make your repair, trying to keep as close as possible to the end shape you require. It's hard after 10 minutes and ready for sanding after 24 hours. I've just done four seperate pieces of fairing where bolt holes and grommet pegs have split or snapped. Good as new !

On the parts front, David Silver's "Mark" advises the parts are winging their way to Norway :D .... Am I supposed to feel this excited at 46 y.o. :?:

I have got a spare set of fairings, but can't afford to get them sprayed up as yet, so mending the original set might be an idea.

I know where you are, but I'm having a hellava job finding the relevant spot on my bike...can you stand back a bit and take another photo ?

Bought a poofy 275ml bottle of strongbow 5.3% at the "monopol" yesterday @ £1.88p...is that expensive now ?

That's the top of the fairing isn't it? Where the screen screws into those horrible rubber grommets that will let go halfway through so you can't tighten them and can't get the screws out again neither.

Must've been a friday night sake bender at the honda plant when they dreamt that up...

OK - I'm with you now...can't see why this won't work, but suggest you leave some overlap on the inside. The plastic isn't what you'd called thick by anyone's imagination. Better still if you've got the missing bit. Superglue first follwed by the expoxy backing, and redrill the hole.

I guess you'll find it in your local hardware store. Found this on the Swedish website www.bostik.se (couldn't find same on uk site)

If you have all the pieces, fiberglass the backside, redrill the hole, and fill the front with the epoxy. But then you're back to the painting issue.

Therein lies the problem - the bits are lying on one of the tracks over here. It broke off when I went down sideways in a rut, the brake reservoir colliding with the screen and breaking it off.

Twisted my wrist and bruised my thigh, so was too busy worrying about getting out than picking up the bit of fairing :lol:

I shall see what I can do if the weather ever turns nice again :roll:
