Still not quite finished - some welding to finish and then i am going to paint it all black hammerite, as my welds are not that clean - ive put filler over the side pieces that were welded together to hide my welding! - it is all very strong though. The sump goes all the way under the engine so offers better protection.
The hardest part was figuring how to keep the lid secure - just used a cabinet lock - the lid slides out. It could be forced open, but its only to hold some tools and stuff - lock is just to stop everything falling out and stop any pesky kids.
Currently squeezed inside is : 2 x tyre levers, can of tyre weld, gas canisters x 3, large spanner, spark plug wrench and spare plug, spoke wrench, bag of tools and leatherman type tool and cargo net incase i go shopping!
If you want plans, dont ask me as ive done all this from my head.

Jees thats a bit of construction  I don't own enough tools to fill that  Will it get in the way for oil changes or can it be easily unbolted? Maybe you have made a funnel to take the old oil away :?
Well done to you though. It is reassuring when you can take kit with you "just in case"

The whole guard still unbolts for oil changes same as before. I just got fed up of carrying tools in my rucksack when i went on longer journeys - you notice the weight on your back after a while. Plus there is nowhere on the dom to store anything except for the original 'toolbox'.
This is my first 'metal work' project, and had to buy a few tools that i didnt have - best was some cutting wheels for my angle grinder - cut 1mm thin - very quick way of cutting sheet steel.
I had to improvise with bending the sheet to fit - using brains and braun !
This is also the first time i've welded anything as well, and am pleased with the result.

I was lucky(???). When my exhausts dropped off, I bought a single sided replacement and stuck my toolbox in the gap left by the missing muffler.

Only problem is locking the thing :? I reckon I'll rivet on a clasp and use a padlock, but I reckon the rattling will drive me mad
Well done to you though, an ingenous answer to the problem. I admire all bikers who fettle rather than buy the latest trinkett (spell?)

Thanks for the comments.
You could wrap your lock in sticky backed black foam (as used for bike racing seats) to stop it rattling ?
You've probably got as much room in yours as mine.
The guard/boxes i have seen advertised are well over £150 - £200. Bugger that i thougt. Went to my local scrappy and bought all the sheet steel (stainless) for £5.
Got the lock off e-bay for 50p !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ive got some paint in my shed, so its cost me bugger all really.

Or stick an old inner tube around the lock... (Works best with pushbike tubes though)
Re: Sticking tyre sealer in there, watch out for bursting cans though. ;-)

Looks like fun.
Not sure I'd attempt either of these 'projects' my hamfistedness would hamper any such attempt
Good job(s) though

Yep, it works great:D Never got round to making it lockable though. Can get condensation in there which rusted a few things (absolutely doesn't leak) but got round this by opening it up every now and then and popping in silica sachet's I swipe from work:D

Good Idea, but concerned about water ingress especially that close to the rear wheel:)

How about a breather pipe running up under the seat or somewhere?
Sorry if I'm being a busy body, I'd like to find a way to do something like that on my AT is all :)
