View Full Version : Can we be of service? Have a problem with the site?

We thought it might be an idea to have an area where it's possible to get any problems you might have with the site sorted out.

So, if you can't do something.. like re-size images, or get your avatar to upload, or your signature to work or anything else, no matter how small, please post them here.

Pretty soon, some helpful chap will chip in and get things sorted out.

This forum is to good and I seem to be spending to much time on it...

In fact I should be on my way to work but I find myslef sitting here typing this post...

For the sake of productivity please downgrade the quality of content both technical and humourous and restrict access - you have a moral responsibility to protect us from our addictions... :D

Now then what's going on here.

LV it was me that accidentaly flicked the wrong switch that sent the forum all screwy.
I'm trying to watch TV and do stuff on the site at the same time and I've realised that as I'm a man I can't do that. Well not and get it right anyway.

As to the donations button check out the thread in the Chatter forum.

Cheers
Dave

Same here. I was gettin' on nice, the very next sec the forum didn't wanna know! can hardly post s***! It's ok once I sign off though. Only acts up once I log on. Sometimes it can take upward of 5 to 10 minutes just to make one post! :(

The usual thing is to delete your temporary files and cookies which should sort the problem out.
Which internet browser are you using?

Also try adding www.xrv.org.uk to your trusted sites list. If someone has accidently messed around with thier security settings this can help...but only do it if you truly trust the site :)

Possibly the size of the photo's.
You need to make sure that each photo is smaller than 2MB each BEFORE you can upload it.
Unfortunately it will look as if its been successful when it hasn't been.

If you;re getting a scripting error then you'll need to cut/paste the message here for us to diagnose.

As for attaching an image the forum doesn't accept files, but does accept pointers to where a file is on the internet (hence it's asking for a web address, URL). To take advantage of this feature you'll need to upload your image either to your own website, our gallery (once we know what the problem is) or another photo site like photobucket (just google the name). Once your picture is up there you can then copy the link to that picture and then use this link as the URL for the Forum picture attachment.

If you are desperate for the images to go online then email them to me at KYMMY(AT)HUGZZZ.COM obviously the (at) should be a @ symbol. then I'll put them into the gallery and give you a link that can be used for the forum.

It does actually. :D
"Manage Attachments"
You can attach files to each post. There shouldn't be anything wrong with that and that is an option for anyone to use. This automatically uploads the files. However they have to be a maximum of 97.7KB BEFORE they are uploaded!

I'll give it a try here.....

Pete,

Don't post all the pics in one post, the Haggis2 thread is a nightmare now because people are posting loads of piccies in one thread.

Break it up into separate posts then the forum software should be able to cope a lot better

Glad it's sorted.

My usual advice though is if anyone has a problem with the forum 99% of the time it will cure itself. Best thing is to just try again later and also to reboot your PC. Only if that fails then let us know.

DaveS
13-07-08, 08:53 AM
I've sort of fixed it now.
But what it really does is to now resize large pictures.

Basically if you're using the Picture Gallery to load pictures in then choose the option that says original image.
I may hack the code and make that the default from now on.

As a related aside we're looking at the whole picture thing at the moment. It can be very confusing and we can't compete with the likes of smugmug and Flickr that do this stuff so much better. So we're looking at options as to how we'll integrate the two.

Snaphappy

DaveS
13-07-08, 07:51 PM
You're not to thick to work it out, it's stopped working as it did after the forum upgrade. I'm afraid it's unlikely to be working again as all of the mods that put this functionality in are not compatible with the latest forum upgrade and the authors of the mods are not likely to be updating them. So it's back to drawing board.

You can select "Original Image" and that will give you the same effect.

Yeti
14-07-08, 02:22 PM
The picture resizing thing works when you add an image to your post but I have found that if you then go back and edit your post, the picture reverts back to html link, which then opens a new window.
