Just talking to a guy who bought a Vara a few years back new but its coming up to needing its first MOT. The problem is that its and import and the clocks are in KPH. does anyone know how he can go about changing that to MPH? The other problem i guess will be his lights pointing the wring direction.

Speedo does not come in to the mot, if the lights give a "flat beam " image then that wont matter either. If the lights are "permantly" disconected then they are not testable.
I had my own MOT testing station for years before moving to France, so know how to bend the rules!

Does it have a mechanical or electronic speedo? M&P does a convertor that "gears down" the speedo cable and a similar device for electronic signals. The problem with these is that the odometer will be difficult to understand, "that's not eight thousand miles, it's five thousand kilometers and three thousand miles" !

Another solution is to replace the speedo disc. The odometer will still be in kilometers but the speedo needle will be pointing to the mph.

A simpler solution is to stick 10 / 30 / 50 / 70 stickers at the appropriate points on the speedo glass.

Unfortunatly the MOT is government run here in Northern Ireland and they will fail you if you don't have KPH marked along with MPH or if like this bike it just has KPH. And the head lights are tested by a machine so there's no cheating there either!

HI there, As it's Northern Ireland I would think the legislation would be the same as here in Scotland? Any way, here's an interesting link for you to have a look at. I think it might be out of date now since the new computerised MOT came out but this was the Law up to lately.
