Afternoon everyone,
Just saying hello to everyone.
I bought my (don't laugh now) '97 SLR 650 a couple of months ago, and have only just found this site.
I have seen a couple of reviews on my bike, some are OK, and some just slate it, is it really as bad as has been made out? It seems ok to me, and I'm not bored with it yet - which is good for me after a couple of months!
So much more character than the four pot sports bikes that I'm used to.

Hi Guzzler welcome on board.
I have never seen or heard of the SLR 650 and quickly did a google on it.

Could you tell us more about the bike and how do you rate it overall.

I've never ridden a SLR, but it's basically a dominator with a bit more street-oriented clothes...
(So Guzzler, if you need to know something about it, don't hesitate to have a go at the dominator section.;-))
They're fun little bikes, and people don't understand that. Most of 'em only understand power, most bike journalists are like that too. So if they stick a guy who only ever tests big bikes on a little 40 horse thumper, the bike gets a bad write up. Because it's weak, and he can't keep up when his buddies accelerate away from him. ;-)
(The new FMX suffers from that as well. A supermoto bike with 37 bhp? Yeah, but it's fun)
But take one of those babies onto a twisty lane.... There's a LOT of fun to be had going 'round the outside of gixxers and blades and the like on twisty single track lanes.

Iīve always liked SLRs, cause there used to be one in my town, often ridden by a woman in tight leather pants and jacket, I like them I do :D
hallo guzzler :hello2: the SLR is a capable bike, and ive always found that its best to ride a bike and form your own views. sometimes people just trash a bike for the hell of it
as rubberchicken says its basically a dommi in road trim though i think they are not as tall :D
enjoy the site its a great place for info and fun :D :D

Cheers chaps, makes me feel a bit better!
I love riding it, gives me a big grin every time, and no one seems to know what it is, which is nice.
I have been looking for a pair of aftermarket cans for it, with no luck, would a set for a dominator fit? Didn't think of that before!

Well that's the end of it then. If it does that its great. It makes you feel great to be alive when you're on a bike that makes you feel like that.

They do that, don't they.
I've had that dominator for almost 4 years now and I've nearly driven it to bits, but Every Single Time I get a big grin on that thing, come rain or shine, doesn't matter. ****ty day @work, once the engine is warm I'm having fun. Even inching it home in the middle of a january night during a snowstorm, okay that's not really all _that_ enjoyable, but I still get home with a feeling of "aaaah, pulled it off again", it sure as hell beats having to take the train. ;-)

They might fit, or be made to fit. I'm not sure if the frame is 100% the same so you may have to improvise a mounting point.
Googled up some pictures, hmm dunno the header pipes on the SLR look different from the NX, so I can't say if they would fit on dommie cans or not. A whole system of cans and header pipes from the NX should fit, the engine is the same and you just have to make sure the exhaust bolts on to something in the back. :-)
I've got a Laser ProDuro (streetlegal version) myself, love it to bits. Nice full low sound without waking up the neighbours. Doesn't do anything for more power, but it sounds great and doesn't rust.
You might also check out headers+cans from the XR family of bikes, that engine is basically the same as well.
There's a thread in the Dominator forum about mounting a Laser can on the bike, with some pictures. Might be worth a look, to see if it looks the same as your bike.

Hi there, welcome!
I'm sure the pipes join two into one before the can at the back. Shouldn't be difficult to make an aftermarket fit, Lazer produro or similar? You might need a link pipe of sorts made up but don't see it being hard?
Any fabrication shop should be able to help you out. Best of luck mate, bike looks like a hoot! Great for a runaround, ok for a bit of offroad as well.
Hope you enjoy the forum.

Hi again,
The pipes are sepparate all the way up to the two cans, that is why i thought a dommie system might fit after looking at some pics in other threads!
I have been in touch with laser, and they said "If we made a system for your bike we would list it" Basicly, go away and don't bother me - we don't want your custom!
I have found some from predator motorsport, but at Ģ411 inc. VAT! not to keen on paying that!
If a dommie system would fit the pipes, I could knock a hanger up at work, we have a full machine shop!

The SLR:

The NX:
http://www.bike-parts.fr/h/motog/13MANWEA/IMGE/F__1800.gif
The idea is the same, but it looks like an NX can won't fit the SLR headers because the SLR headers are shorter...
But if you also get a set of NX header pipes then the connection in the middle won't be a problem. The exhaust ports on the engine should be the same and the only potential hard problem would be if the SLR has some sticky outy bits in places that interfere with the NX pipework other than the occasional side cover...

Hmm hang on a sec: The frame on the NX and the SLR is quite different. Hadn't seen that bit yet...

NX:
http://www.bike-parts.fr/h/motog/13MANWEA/IMGE/F__2900.gif
Looks like the exhaust on the SLR passes outside the frame, while on the NX it goes through the inside...
Hmm. Not sure if I'd make the gamble to go with a full NX exhaust, myself.
I think the best thing to do might be to find a dominator and park next to it to have a good intense look at the run of the exhaust on both bikes side by side...
