Borrowed a mates TTR as he's just sold his bike and no longer needs it.

Picked it up off him last night, got it for a week while he's off on hols so I can see if its any good to me. Fired it up and all looked cool, but the battery light was flashing so just had time to set it to mate with my mobile and set my home location before it turned itself off.

Attached the charger and some other splash screen came on, showing just the unit against a yellow/orange background. Now it wont allow me to move off that screen, even fully charged. It showed little icons suggesting the removal and re-insertion of the SD card but it still wont go beyond that splash screen.

I've pushed the little reset button, but that doesn't get me any further! Anyone got one, any ideas?!

HELP!

If can you take the battery out and do a proper power off cycle it might do the trick. Or it might not. Or the battery might be fixed. Or I might not know anything about anything.

Good luck, perhaps it's still "mating" with your 'phone?

Like most "modern" electronic devices they can easily get caught in a loop, maybe it's still waiting info from your phone like Slimie said or it's forgot what type of device it is, or you took too long with the batteries out, I hate electronics :?

I suggest you go into Halfords and ask them why this thing that they sold you doesn't work, a lot of a porky I know, but they deserve it and one of their spotty youths might know which button to press

My Tom Tom 300 did that - go onto the website and they will advise you what to do!

I had to send mine back to holland (where they are born!) and after about 3 months it came back fully fixed and with all new updated software!

it's been great since!

seems that somethign goeas on the fritz with the older software and they need to re-programme it!

hope that helps!

Yup, that's kinda the stage I've got to now, I've asked the relevant question on their website and am awaiting a reply as I didn't fancy their 50p per minute premium rate Helpline (well, more that I couldn't dial out to that number from work!). Apparently they endeavour to respond to all enquiries withing 5 days and have a solution for you...still waiting though!

check out www.pistonheads.com and then the "gassing station"

register and post under the GPS Section there. Quite a lot of people use Pistonheads these days (inc. me)

one thing to do .... is it fully charged ?

let the battery run completely flat, then re-charge and try again. you can also try plugging a usb cable into it and seeing if you can read it from a PC. ( you dont need any special software, just read it as another drive though "my computer")

also, there is a helper tool you can download from tomtom that you plug the tomtom unit into and you can edit / manipulate stuff on it.

worth a try

Sorted it finally...Hurrah!

Installed TomTom Home onto the PC from the TT website, found an upgrade to the Nav software and dowloaded and installed that. Still no joy.

Took my life in my hands and erased the Nav application off the SD card and then reinstalled the fresh one I'd just downloaded. Bingo, popped straight up. As it were.

By the time I'd done all that though it was dark and too late to fit it to the bike so I stil haven't had chance to test it out yet. Gonna try and get it on there at lunchtime today.

Still waiting for my response from both the reseller and from TomToms own "Tech Support"...useless fecks!

Hah! the usual IT solution to everything either "switch it off and then switch it back on again" or "uninstall and then re-install" or my fav' "hit it with a big hammer", oh no sorry that last one is the mechanical engineer's solution to everything
