Just treated myself to a Tomtom Rider and, as I am completely useless when it comes to bike electrics/mechanics, can anyone advise on the best place to wire the power to? I wired my fag lighter direct to the battery with an in-line fuse but I'm not convinced it's the best solution.
Cheers!

That covers fitting a power socket of course, but it gives a good description of where to wire things into the bike, so just bin the relay and power socket, and add your power lead.
This is just what I did with the StreetPilotIII, and ran the cable up the frame under the tank, round the head through the existing cable holders and then to the GPS mount on the handle bars.

Cie, did you use a 2 amp fuse?
It depends what you're doing.
If you're just using the TomTom then that should be fine, if you're powering other devices at the same time then a 5 amp would be better.

Wired mine into the feed for the "sidelights" as these are always on, so it comes on and off with the ignition.
Different on the Twin I know, but on the Vara that also meant I could hide the wires nicely and didn't have to cut the power cable as it could all tuck nicely under the dash panel.

Well, I've wired it into the ciggy lighter connection with a separate fuse (I got a bit lazy) and it seems to work fine. I think I will add a switch for it tho' at some point so that both the ciggy lighter connection and the GPS is not on permanently.
Cheers for the tips.
