Anyone know if the Touratech handguards have the aluminium insert? Are they identical to the Acerbis Rally Pro? What are the chances of some of those big old protectors off a BMW GS fitting some Honda bars without weeks of fannying about?

Top Man, cheers dude :D

Touratech jobbies come in at £60 including the "spoilers"...think it's about the same for the Acerbis.

The touratech ones I've seen are the same as the acerbis rally guards... They don't have an alu insert, but they're nylon so they don't break.

And I know a guy who'd fitted 1150GS guards to a TDM, so that apparently works. ;-)

I have the Acerbis brush guards on my Alp. They are the same as the Touratech's but worked out cheaper. They don't have alu inserts as confirmed above but are very sturdy. Most importantly...they look cool! 8)

Oooer yours still look so new. ;-)
But yes, sturdy indeed. I've managed to break the spoiler on mine by it dragging backwards through the ground. In fact the guard having buried itself in the soft soil saved the bike from sliding off into a canal  it was still hanging on the embankment with the wheels in the air, about 1 meter from the water. ;-)

Cheers chaps, I'll keep my eyes out.

Faantjie those do look cool which, as you say, is the most important factor!

Parked up to next to a 1200 GS t'other day and noticed the guards on there which is what set me off!

I have just fitted Acerbis Mutliplo T. These are alloy reinforced with replaceable plastics with different sizes available. They are the usual Acerbis quality items and fit the Varadero nicely. You can see them fitted at http://www.honda-varadero-uk.org/forum/index.php?topic=5219.0

Those look like just the very jobbie Mr Niceguy....not cheap though huh? Only place I found them with a quick search just now had them for £71 without the fitting kit! Not showing that they come in Black either, which clearly by your pics they do!

I shall have another look....

I got mine from http://www.everyaccessory.co.uk/products.php?id=133. Delivered within 3 days of ordering and Peter can supply black. They wasn't cheap, but then I value my fingers more than the cost of them. The fitting kit is the same for the rally pro so if you look on eBay you can pick up the fitting kit seperate.

BTW the Touratech handguards are re-branded Acerbis without the alloy and twice the price.

Yeah, I had arrived at that conclusion myself. If you download the TT Fitting PDF for the handguards it even had an illustration of an Acerbis guard on there! Cheeky gets!

OEM BMW Guards as fitted to the 1150 and I think 1200 GS are £30 + VAT, but then they dont have the Alu insert either
