View Full Version : The 2007 Triumph Tiger 1050
Don't you just hate IT (http://www.raptorsandrockets.com/Reviews/2007_Triumph_Tiger_1050.htm)! Shoulda been the 2007 Vara!!!
it happens to be a feckin Good bike and on swinging a leg over it it comfy and feels the nuts 8) 8)
i cant afford one but wouldnt mind blagging a test ride
they've thrown all off road pretentions out the window but buy all accounts its a cracking road bike 8)
though by all accounts it dont quite have the mile crunching abilitys of the 1200GS :D
It's my new I want one bike, knocking the Buell Ulysses off top spot.
I guess it still needs that big valve shim (camshaft out) out service every 12K :(
Sat on one at the NEC, it felt just right!
Personally I don't like it as its lost the off road side of things... might as well buy a Fazer or something like that in my opinion. At leats the Vara still has a nod towards the off-road side.
That's what I want for the front end of my Vara, a nice 17in rather than the clunky great 19in that it's got on there at the moment.

Yep, road onlyonly road. You must know by now I'm more for SuperMotos than I am for all that off road stuff.

super motos tip a nod to dirt  on slicks 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
My main hope is that Honda will see sense and make a Vara version of the new Tiger and stop fackin' around with all that Adventure Tourer sh*t. Then it'll make it easier for me to do a conversion for my bike.
nothing **** about adventure tourers :P go anywhere do anything bikes thats what they are 8) coolest two wheel transport on the planet 8)
That Tiger is more than fugly..it`s fecking fugly.
Yet another modern issue blandola plastic wrapped toy.
I`ll say nothing about those wheels.........

Looks peachy to me, but then I like the newer Fazers too
Mabel know what you mean from a style point of view the original Tigger looks much more like an off roader and just more ehm purposeful.
p.s. DaveS the spellchecker also doesn't recognise Tigger, now that's just wrong in any language

Ok, my view, I like the new Tiger to look at. Be a great tourer, although I'd prefer more offroad bias.
I'll reserve my opinion overall until I've tested one
P.S. The wheels are an absolute nightmare to keep clean!

I can't imagine buying one, but I don't mind the look of the new Tiger. If you see it for what it is - a road bike - then there are plenty more ugly road bikes out there than the Tiger. :D I guess for those of us that like to take our bikes off road occasionally - or those who want the adventure bike look - it's not going to tick the right boxes.
Perhaps they should have made the 'new' Tiger more 'adventure bike' with more off-road potential and given this new bike another name altogether? But then again, the original Tigers (the 90, 100 and 110) were purely road bikes - the off-road ones were the Trophy's.

Better try both before deciding, the whole feel of the engines are worlds apart. Personally, the fizzy triple bored me to death, it's very much like a four in line: Great performance but extremely unengaging. But I bet many others will find the Buell a primitive and jerky tractor.
Not worlds apart are service costs I'm afraid: Despite the simple build of the Buell engine (hydro valves, nothing to synchronise, no liquid cooling, cheap oil / plugs / filters) Buell dealers somehow manage to charge similar (or even worse) prices as anyone else and often deliver a mediocre job; better check the whole bike yourself when you get it back from a service, or even better, forget about warranty and have it serviced by a true specialist or yourself. 8)
I admire Triumph, I think they are heavily undervalued for how they perform against the Japs, despite being in a country where manufacturing is in sad decline. It's not my cup of tea, but all that could change if they start making non-retro twins.
