Anyone tryed this bike?
http://www.highland.se/
Just seen this post.
Now that is a beauty!!
Any idea how much?
Its got to be KTm + in the £ dept!
Its got to be about 40kg less than my TA, with ALL the goodies on as standard!
It would be a Dakar Marathon class bike!
don't know masses about the company other than they have been hand building bike (along the same lines as CCM in the UK) for about 10 years. The bike was homologated in Europe in 2003 and in the states in 2004 for competition use, with a plan to run a factory team on a USA flag in the 2005 Dakar with a special edition bike called logically 'Highland Dakar Supercompetition'....
As for the bike is made in Sweden, weighs in at 164kg and is powered by the companies own 950cc (85bhp)v60' engine that was developed with the technical help of the reknown guys at Folen in the late '90s. Its been rumoured that Folen have also produced a 450cc version as Mudwiz suspects that will fit nicely in the current Dakar Regulations.....
If anybody is interested in trying one then speak to the guys at R&R who have a demo bike available.....

PS anyone doing a RTW should be talking to this company as they are experts in overland bike equipment!
I've tried the bike and it's a very special bike in many ways.
First of all we went to the factory a year or two ago, had a great tour of the factory since one of our members in the club knows one of the founders.
We got the cjance to try the Highland 950V2 bike in both SM and Adventure version. The SM is way to nervous for my part, the steering is not what you will call a stable one but needs attention all the time. On the Adventure modell it's much more stable and nice.
The engine is a piece of masterwork as it got alot of power all up to redline and it's just asking more punishment all the time, since it's fuelinjected it's abit harsh at normal slow riding and the bike is at it's right when you need to twist the throttle all the time. I tried to keep up with the founder who was on a old version of the bike but I quite after like 200m realize I had not a chance on earth to keep up at his speeds on gravel.
It's well build bike and feels more like a offroad bike with a bigger engine in it. We saw some of the design ideas they had in the factory and if all of them comes true there's gonna be soem really nice products out soon (some have already been shown at some bikefairs).
It's not a bike you take for a longer trip like a RTW, but it's a great bike to race gravel at highspeed and just have fun with. It's too big and heavy to drag it out in the forrest for some serious offroad but if you are strong and good enough you can manage to do it but it's more like the TA and AT for that part. It can to it but there's other things it's better at.
Would I like to have one? Yes, as a supplement to the Transalp but on longer trips I would take the TA anytime.
Cheers,
Zappa
