I was discussing this longest day event with a colleague at work today and they were adamant that since the number of participants in this event is greater than 10,we cant all go booling down the queens highway without first obtaining the express permission from the police otherwise we will be in breach of some 'convoy' law or something....I've never heard of such a law but then I'm no solicitor and I thought if i brought it to the attention of the group someone may be better informed...it might be a load of crap...but I'd hate to think we were all held up by some red-tape shenanigan in JOG car park....does anyone have any specifics on this subject? as it's news to me......any comments anyone?????:confused:

no worrys
we only start together and than we will split up into little groups automatically
Everyone has his own riding speed and style/distance so we will not be together for long:D;);)
As we only start together(at 4am:rolleyes:) we do not need to get the police involved:D:cool:

I've asked the question from a very reliable source and the definitive answer is NO WE DON'T NEED TO NOTIFY THE POLICE - in fact we don't need to notify anyone............

This comes from a serving Police Motorcyclist who is participating in a similiar run from Lands End up to John O'Groats 'en masse' in a group of motorcyclists.

Another factor for us to bear in mind, is that although we will all be leaving at the same time, it is down to the individual rider as to what speed they wish to ride at. A lot of people do not like to ride in large groups so I anticipate that we will be strung out and hooking up with different small groups as people slow up or speed up, stop for fuel / food etc..........

Oh DOOOO pay attention at the back :D:D:D

Police - do we need to let any police forces areas we're riding through know what we're doing - last thing we want is a load of police attention interrupting the ride to see what we're playing at - I'll make enquiries tomorrow on this one.

16.1.08

I think we will naturally break into smaller groups. Some will need to go slower for whatever reasons or even stop (patches of tiredness for example). Those ahead will find it aggravating to keep stopping or slowing down.

.....then the marshalling isnt an issue. Also the police issue wouldnt arise as we're not creating an unusual moving vehicle presence on the roads;
